ok I'm just confused is the Queen of Richmond real and if yes then how come I have never heard of her or route 13 A lot of times, the Queen of Richmond seems very real to me. Just because there are no definitive photographs of her, and that there is no record of her in the official BC ferries archives doesn't mean that she isn't around, or being used by the company from time to time. You need to remember that back in the 1960's, the Bennett Government only had treasury authority to build 9 major mainline ships. But they needed 10, for maximum flexibility and efficiency. So after the 2 originals were built (Sidney & Tsawwassen), they only publicized the building/launching of 7 more. The other ship was kept quiet (much like they are doing with the Island Sky), and so no one noticed. We know that all it takes is a 3M decal to mask a ship's identity. The last time you were on the Q-Vancouver, you may have actually been on the 'Richmond (but real ferry fans know the difference). Take the PacifiCats for example. Three were built and three still exist, but only two show up in BC Ferries sailing records. Something doesn't add up, but because big business controls the media, no one knows about it. Never heard of Route 13? That's because BC Ferries management doesn't want you to know about it.....

I think it is an April Fool's joke actually April fool joke? are you serious? Isn't it plausible that a bunch of students and workers like this group of ferry fans would be able to drop everything and take a 10:00am sailing on a Tuesday morning? I mean, what else would we be doing? We just wanted to welcome the 4th month with a special trip. Since we missed the Equinox-on-the-Esquimalt, and it's too early for Solstice-on-the-Saanich, we needed something to celebrate. I hope that you're not accusing us of having a sense of humour or satire? not us detail-nerds?

And let's not forget last year's trip for Kwanza on the Kwuna, too bad we couldn't come to a concensus on whether to celebrate Chaunuka-on-the-Cowichan or Hanuaka on the Howe Sound.

I work at Canadian Tire, in the automotive parts department, and I get a lot of BC Ferry employees as customers. At least 1 or 2 of them per day...and most of them are engineers. It's always the engineers who are sneaky and clever. I noticed that they usually hang around the aisle with the custom decals and such....which is conveniently near my desk, so I can spy on them. I am pretty sure they don't use 3M decals to cover up the ships identity, they are using TrimBrite vinyl striping and lettering! Other than that, they usually get me to cut fuel line and keys for them.

Never heard of Route 13? That's because BC Ferries management doesn't want you to know about it..... My friend works for BCF, and he gave me a list of all the ferry routes so I can use as a checklist as I travel along them. Anyways, there is a route 13: Langdale - Gambier Island - Keats Island. I would definitely love to join you guys on this trip. Too bad the trip wasn't sooner, because I'd love to have one more visit with the Esqie in Langdale...who knows, maybe she'll still be there.

I don't think that the Queen of Richmond can fit into the docks at New Brighton on Gambier Island.......

Actually, the Queen of Richmond does have another name: "Stormaway III".

One of the attractions of the 'Richmond, of course, is that it has the test kitchen for BC Ferries. 'Sunshine breakfasts' were invented there, by Helmut Puck, Wolfgang's somewhat less renowned brother. Less successful were the breaded, deep fried sausages, which were dropped from the menu after several testers went into acute cardiac arrest shortly after ingesting them. It's always an adventure visiting the 'Richmond's cafeteria.

One of the reasons (among others) I have never sailed on the Richmond. I don't want my Triple O burger messed with. Heard they tested liver instead of ground beef. And don't get me started on the trials for the new BC Ferries Clam Chowder - you don't want to know.

I even heard that there is a pub where the Buffet would be located on the other V's. They even brew they're own beer on board!

I had heard that, influenced by the success of the QoR's micro brewing, some of the other crews tried it. Unfortunately, all they managed to do is deposit a mess on a few passengers cars when they misconnected some pipes!

I can't believe that I have missed this thread until today! I also can't believe that here I am back in the still snow covered waste land on the North Coast an 'lo' I have to hop back on a plane and go back down south for this event. I would not miss this for all the tea in China!
Can anyone confirm that the first sailing of the day will be blessed with the presence of none other than Monty Aldous, Phil Gaglardi, and WAC, himself? This is going to be the event of the year for us ferry nerds! Also, is the QoR still wearing pastel blue?

Since this is a once in a lifetime trip I will see if there are any cheap seats to fly out for it. And I will rent a car to make sure that the ferry curse doesn't transfer to me. Instead of the van how about we rent a stretch Hummer Limosine. How does BC Ferries charge for those anyways? It is after all a car.

See you all there tomorrow. This might be the largest turnout for a group event, in our forum's history.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible.
I'll be posting my trip report here on this thread, tomorrow night. I look forward to reading the other people's reports too.
Maybe someone will post pictures from the trip??
