Oh boy, I heard a rumour that since the weather is looking decent, the Snowbirds may sneak into Comox early to put on a special show for this momentous occasion...and now, looking to the north...

OK I will miss this trip . I was matching my first trip on the Richmond with my first trip on an Air Canada 777. The pilots missed the exit for YVR so we are stuck in the express lane for Hawaii. So the beach is a small consolation, and the hula dancers, and the fresh seafood, and pineapple, and Kona coffee... ok forget the Richmond. See you soon...maybe.

Well, my plane ended up at the wrong Vancouver...I blame it on the new European flights they are allowing now, those Brits are always flying the east bound corridor, going west! I'm just going to head for the nearest bar...

I'm live from the Queen of Richmond right now. This ship has free WiFi. It's been a wild first half of the trip and I'm quite dizzy from all the spinning. Some people came aboard dressed like Pirates and took the ship by force, however it's been fun having them on board in the pub here. Flugel has had a few too many Martini's, I've been enjoying the many different kinds of beer that is brewed on this vessel. My favourite is the Renaissance Red Ale. The Latsaoc's have also met another cousin, Bup.
That's all from me for now, now to take some pictures that I probably will never post...
Chris will be providing the next update from Blenz in Horseshoe Bay at around 5.

It was such a thrill to finally get to meet all of the forum members today on the Queen of Richmond. And I think I must mean all of you, since so many of us were there! I have to apologize, since in my hurry to get out the door this week, I brought my old camera instead of the new one. Despite that, I will post some of the pictures I took, since they are so historically significant. First of all, I arrived in BC on Monday afternoon, after some meetings in Seattle. I thought I would do a little ferry riding the day before our trip, so I showed up at the Tsawwassen terminal to head to Duke Point. Oh boy, was I surprised to see that they had moved the Queen of Esquimalt there for a couple of last runs to Duke Point. I asked a member of the crew what was up, and they said they were doing a MD sailing with her to show her off to some potential buyers from Asia. So I can now say that my second ride on her ever will also likely be my last. Here's a picture of her as she leaves Tsawwassen: As we approached Duke Point, I saw another ferry in the distance. This camera of mine doesn’t do the scene justice, but I saw the Queen of Richmond out and about. Perhaps it was on some sort of sea trials. I took this opportunity to get a picture that included both the Queen of Richmond and the Queen of Esquimalt in one frame. This is a significant event for me! Finally, I met up with the group and we boarded the ferry. I’ll let the others give you the details of that stuff. I immediately started taking pictures of the up-until-now lost ferry. Here are a few: I took some pictures of the interior. This one is a close up (which may be a bit too close, I suppose) of some of the remaining early bench seating. You can tell how well the fabric goes with the original Dogwood carpeting that you would see around this furniture. If only I had zoomed out enough. Sorry. We went out on the deck, and my picture taking luck improved. The first of these is a very clear picture of the stern of the Q of R. The other is a fascinating picture of the bow of the ship. This one will be easily identifiable as the Q of R. Note the “Queen of Richmond – Victoria” clearly stenciled on the life ring. I wish I could have taken that one home as a memento! This picture is of the car deck on the Q of R. My car is the one right behind the pickup truck on the left. That appears to be the Langdale terminal off in the distance. I think. Finally, this picture did not come out so well, since it was taken by Mrs. K so I could be in the picture. This is, of course, a group photo of me with a bunch of forum members who happened to be nearby at the moment. Yes, I know it didn’t come out too well, but I really wanted to share the moment with everyone: (Top row, L to R): Coastal Skier (always smiling), Chris, Flugel Horn (with that gag arrow pointing through his head), DENelson, Wet Coast Kid, P.Incorrectness. The fellow in the background walking by with a parrot on his shoulder is Barnacle. (Front row, L to R): Ship-Rider 16 (shown with a laptop adding to his post total), NewFlyer, JohnH, BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall, Myself, my 2 kids (seen not bickering with one another for the first time this trip), and a shadow that I think belongs to Cascade, but his image was mysteriously deleted from the picture after the fact. We were surprised to see Ms. Marshall on this trip. She seemed surprised that we were interested in old ferries as well as new ferries. I asked her if we would be seeing more of the Queen of Richmond this summer as a backup or to supplement service, and she mentioned that she could not comment at this time. I am glad to have taken the time to go on this trip, and it was great meeting all of you!

I had a great trip today. I've never seen the 'Richmond so packed before. I don't know why there was so much traffic, besides our forum group.
I enjoyed meeting all of the forum group. We had some good times today, huh?
Bup Latsoac was a good buddy to meet. Yeah, sorry about drinking too much. I did offer to pay to have the Dogwood carpet cleaned after I messed it up.
...too bad that Mac fell overboard. I guess that's one way to get a ride in the zodiac.

Awesome Trip Today. I'll have pictures up in the next few days. The Richmond has a very smooth ride, the way it should be, vibrating so much the Jello in the cafeteria jumps off your plate. She's also quite comfortable with her bottom-gets-sore-seating. I think we almost ran aground as we came awfully close to one island near a marina the crew announced they forgot to make the course change, though their tone was suspiciously odd, as though they sniffed, smoked, or Ate something. The crew than made the ferry go in circles as I munched on a donut made using one of the donut machines from the 60s. You should have seen us at the Snack Bar, Better Known as the 2nd Church of Coastal-Orthodoxy, (the First being the Queen of Capilano) with the honourable Reverend Flugel Horn and guest appearence by his Holiness Jordan W. Oh, and don't get me started on the events that occurred when we passed by the Queen of Esquimalt. So much fun on those 7 or so Hours spent on the Queen of Richmond.

Great pics of the Q of R. I had no idea the car deck resembles an Issaquah-Class boat so much. That's amazing! It also appears in your car deck photo that Langdale has now adopted WSF's teal green colour for it's transfer span towers. When did they do this?

Yeah, that is quite possible! After enjoying all that fine micro-brew beer they make on the Q of R, you could forgive me just this once if I mixed up "Langdale" and "Fauntleroy" in my notes. It was April Fools Day, after all. (Note to self: a 2 level slip next time!) But just because you put me on the spot there, I will have to make a couple of more observations about my Queen of Richmond adventure. First, my wife noticed that I hadn't shared the picture she took on the passenger ferry Snohomish the day before, while I was busy in Seattle. I had promised, so here is the picture she took out the window of the passenger cabin of the Snohomish: The other picture was taken by Koastal Karl last week, and he had posted it at that time. After looking at it carefully, it appears that this is truly a rare picture of the Coastal Inspiration in Slip 1 and the Queen of Richmond in Slip 2. If you look VERY closely, you can note just how much larger the CI is than the Q of R in every possible direction. Nice picture of a rarely seen ferry!: Now, I am pretty sure that I wasn't the only forum member with a camera on this trip! I'm sure someone must have caught something??? ;D

I am really disappointed with the photos I got while on board the Richmond on Tuesday. Occasionally I take the camera off of automatic settings, and then forget to put it back. Tuesday was 'one of those days'. The following photo was taken on the outside decks during the pre dawn tour of the ship while at Langdale. Unfortunately this photo is the best of the lot for me. Does anyone think it has 'baner of the month' potential? On a side note I wish we had known ahead of time about the Gabriola Renaissance. I would love to have taken a detour to get some pics of her.
