Day 1, I got two spare seats, I will deal with anyone who wants to ride with me on a case by case basis. Day 2, for those who need to get back to the mainland early can come with me as well.

Karl and I will be leaving Nanaimo around 5:00PM on Saturday afternoon (the 19th).
I will have two free seats, so if anyone wants a ride with us in the afternoon or is planning on coming up to Powell River with Dan yet doesn't want to leave the group early Sunday morning, I can give you a ride...

I will drive and give rides only if the extra room is needed and if I can go on this one. Otherwise I will hitch a ride.

I have a feeling we won't need any extra vehicles to come along, seeming nobody else seems to be expressing interest in attending. So you're more than welcome to ride with me if you like. Thanks for offering to drive though.
I'm starting to second guess whether or not we'd be able to make it from Departure Bay to Buckley Bay within 40 mins. Even though I grew up on the Island, I can't remember how long exactly it would take to get to Buckley Bay from Departure Bay, with the newer Inland Island highway. So if by chance we miss the 11:00am sailing to Denman, what other options would we have? I don't think it's really worth driving out to Campbell River to try and squeeze in a trip on the Bowen Queen to Quadra Island. So we'll need a "Plan B", just in case.
Also, on the morning of the 19th, I'd like to try and be one of the first people on the 8:30am sailing, that way I'm one of the first off, so we don't lose any time being stuck waiting to get off of the Ferry.

Plan B, try to make it to Sugar Loaf and photo shoot around the Bay?

I might drive up on Sunday and do the circle pac instead of staying over Sunday night. I am gonna have to get Saturday if I go overnight and I am already planning to take another Saturday off a few weeks later so I might drive the circlepac for the day on Sunday. Only way I can do it on the Sunday is to drive.

After studying the schedules some more, we could actually miss the 11:00am sailing to Denman, and catch the following sailing and still be able to go to Hornby and back. We'd have to go straight to Little River after though, which would allow us to arrive there around 2:15pm, roughly an hour before our sailing. I don't know what the traffic levels are like on the Comox-Powell River route at this time of the year, but I'd hope that an hour prior to the sailing is plenty of time.

We wouldent get to Langdale till about 5:40pm or so. Not 4:20pm if we took the 3:20 from Saltery Bay, lol! Would would have to catch the 6:30pm from Langdale which I think we would be able to make. Then the islanders can catch the 9pm out of Horseshoe Bay or even the 9pm out of Tsawwassen if I end up driving.

Alright, I have a ferry watching spot for you guys at Comox, for those interested. As you approach the terminal on Elannor Road (just follow the signs to the terminal), you should make a right at Wilkinson Road. After you pass the trailer park, make a left at Singing Sands Road. Drive to the end and that should sport a nice view of the straight and looking west you should see the terminal. This is very close to where our summer place is, so count on a good view. Here are some sample photos starring the Burnaby... Singing Sands RoadQueen of Burnaby, taken from location described above

I'm planning to be able to make it out for this weekend.
I need to ride with someone too because I'm going to try my best not drive my own car on the ferries as much as possible cause I can't really afford to do that right now. (It has to stay in the parkade).
So are we for sure staying at the motel in Westview? Should we be reserving rooms at all?

Mill Bay, reservations are strongly recommended, I will need to talk to a few people since my car is filled up.
UPDATE: I am probably going to be taking NewFlyer in my vehicle and Coastal Skier is a maybe. I suggest talking to Scott since he still has two spaces available. I can carry up to 5 if you do not mind cramming in with NewFlyer and Coastal Skier, then my car is full.

Mill Bay you could probably come with Scott and me as he has room but we arent going until Saturday evening on the 7:15pm to Powell River as he has to work. I could meet you at Departure Bay or Duke Point then we can go to Scott's place then head up with Scott from there to Comox. Let us know what you decide. I think we should be booking the motel too.

I'll be taking on "Queen of Esquimalt" once us mainlanders arrive in Nanaimo. Graham is also using me as a backup, in case his current ride, with Doug doesn't work out. So that leaves one free spot, though it will be crammed if all spots are full in my car. But I know we'd be able to manage just fine. But I'd like to know before hand of exactly how many will be riding with me, so I know how big of a sailpass to buy next week.

It's too bad people don't like to check back through the posts. Alright, here's some itineraries to look at now, to maximize our Ferry experience. Before I go any further, we would buy a SAILPASS to cut down on the costs (yes this would cut down on the cost dramatically). Two people would split the $169 ($84.50/each) price. This covers the cost for two adults and a car, and enables us to just drive on to the ferry by just simply showing the pass. Add $32 for each additional person in the vehicle, and split it again.
EDIT: Thinking again, and realizing that this would probably really be the only really convienient option for everyone, given their location for time.
Clockwise route (via Comox first)
- Mainlanders catch 8:30am, Coastal Renaissance to Departure Bay
- Mainlanders arrive at Departure Bay at 10:10am, and join with Islanders
- **Possible Option?**
-Catch 11:00am sailing to Denman Island -Drive to Denman East to catch 11:50am sailing to Hornby (walk on) -Return to Denman Island on the 12:10pm -Drive back to Denman West to catch 12:45pm sailing to Buckley Bay
- Arrive in Courtenay/Comox by 1:30pm ish. Have lunch.
- 2:00pm, arrive at Little River, to catch 3:15pm sailing to Powell River. (Queen of Tsawwassen would arrive around 1:20pm)
- 4:35pm, arrive in Powell River, check into Westview Center Motel. **Please note message at bottom of post for more info on this motel.
- 5:40pm sailing to Texada Island
- Return to Powell River on 6:15pm sailing? Otherwise return on the 7:40pm...it would be dark by then
- Depending on which sailing we return to Powell River at, it would be at least 6:50pm. Relax for the rest of the evening, grab a bite to eat.
- Scott, catch 7:15pm sailing to Powell River??
Day 2
**Optional** Catch 8:10am sailing to Comox, return on the 10:10am sailing to Powell River. Karl would catch 10:10am sailing.
- Check out of Motel around 12:00pm, then go for lunch
- Drive to Saltery Bay, being there for around 2:30pm, with 35 minute driving time
- 3:20pm sailing to Earls Cove on the ol' Queen of Chilliwack
- Arrive at Earls Cove around 4:00pm, and driving to Langdale
- Arrive at Langdale around 4:20pm, possibly just missing the 4:30pm sailing to Horseshoe Bay
- Scenario 1, we make the 4:30pm sailing to Horseshoe Bay, arriving at the Bay around 5:05pm. Islanders catch 7:00pm sailing home.
- Scenario 2, we catch the 6:30pm sailing to Horseshoe Bay around 7:05pm, and Islanders returning home on the 9:00pm sailing, making a very long day for the Victorians.
**I've done some research for a cheap place to stay, and have come to the conclusion that for conviernce, and previous experience at this location, I figure we may as well just stay at the Westview Center Motel again. I'm predicting the cost to we around $70-$95 for the night. This place is located literally just a block away from the Ferry terminal in Powell River. The last time I stayed there in the summer of 2006, I shared a room with Doug, which had 2 beds at a cost of about $80, split in half ($40/each).

i just read chris' post that includes a quote of one of his previous posts. yup, don't see a date for which weekend on there at all. so if people did go back through the previous posts and came across that one then they would not know when the weekend is

OK, fair enough, the dates weren't exactly 100% clear in previous posts. But the itinerary was already there at least, which was also requested.
Anyways, we'd like a count of how many rooms/people we'll need to book for, to see if we're eligable for a group rate at the Motel. So if anyone is sharing a room, or getting their own, let me know ASAP.

Chris, i'll go with you for the driving portion, since you said I can . I just wanna try and get this straight for me... I think we should list who is making reservations at the motel, and who is willing to share rooms, so we can divide ourselves up ahead of time and know what each person will need to pay for a bed.

I have a feeling they dont do group rates. They list on the site they do corporate rates but I think if they did group rates they would of listed it.
I will have my own room!

I am a green light.
I will be staying overnight in Comox, and deffinatley be joining you, courtesey of Dan, on the trip.
Whether I will go with you down the coast on Day 2 is presently undecided. I will either get the 6:30 am ferry out of Comox, or drive down the island and catch an afternoon ferry back to Vancouver.
