So how much snow does everyone have? Here in Squamish all we got was the light dusting from yesterday of about 1cm and then we got these huge outflow winds happening blowing all of the snow away and blowing all the clouds to the Island and Vancouver areas. So right now its really windy and we basically dont have anymore snow, and all we have is the built up stuff from plowing the roads and all that.

Well I guess that is because Vancouver Island got all the snow today. We have about 10 inches here in Victoria and probably more up island. Power and cable was out for most of the day in certain areas and flights were cancelled from the YYJ. Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen ferries are running a bit late today. I would love to take a ferry trip when it's snowing, that would be cool, only problem would be getting out there.

We got about, hmm, five or six inches of snow up here in north Langley. And Karl, going on a ferry in the snow. I wouldn't be outside, that's for sure. It was pretty windy here today and the snow on the face hurt. It was like a light blizzard here.

It is snowing heavily right now Where I live near the bottom of Grouse Mountain, but it is apparently raining at the Vancouver Airport, so that probably means it is raining at the ferry terminals in the Lower Mainland, but it might be a mix at Horeshoe Bay considering the fact that it is sheltered in there.

That would be awful to work on an open deck ferry and have to sholel all the snow. I'd get a big snow plow truck and push all the snow off the ends.

I have never been on a ferry during a snow storm but I assume that it would be much like skiing really fast in one without wearing goggles. Going on a ferry is the only thing I haven't done in the snow. I have riden a bike, driven a car, skied (definetly not snowboarded), and walked in snow. (I like snow alot you can probably guess by the name of my website)

Can anyone tell me back when we had the big blizzard of 96, were the ferries cancelled due to all the snow??? If I remember correctly I only remember hearing Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen was cancelled, I dont know how many sailings were or if all sailings were. Departure Bay to Tsawwassen was but I remember hearing that the Horseshoe Bay ferries to Naniamo were the only ones running on a limited schedule. Is this right?? I am sure the gulf island ferries were too. How are you guys doing over there on Saltspring?? those of you who live over there?? Lots of snow? well probably not as much now as on Friday and Saturday.

snow has to be removed from sundecks and open passenger areas of all ferries for safety reasons. Usually by hand. Salt is often used as well. Deck crews have to stand a watch forward anytime during reduced visibility, including heavy snow. Some sailings were missed during the blizzard of '96 due mainly to ships crew unable to get to work like every one else.

It is currently pouring here and most of the snow is now washed away. The fields around the Salmon River and the ditches that drain into the Salmon River are all flooded.
