I'm hearing different rumours from everyone I talk to. I'm hearing now we'll be going back to school on November 1st. Then another rumour is this is going to be our summer, so we would run until the end of August just in time to start another year the week after. I sure hope this isn't our summer, I don't even want to be out of school right now! I never thought I would say that, but I just want to move on to college to get a career! I don't see why the teachers think they can get a 35% raise. Nobody else in BC is getting that as far as I know. 35% ..? I thought it was 15% they were seeking...

There's even been talk of a general strike, although it probably won't happen. Maybe even the ferry workers would walk out for that!

For one thing, there's no way this would be our summer unless the teachers are on strike until christmas. Another thing, the teachers are only asking for a 15% raise and this is a minimal part of their demands. They are prioritizing class size limits and working conditions, and they are less concerned about a wage increase. The most likely scenario is that the remainder of the school year will proceed as planned until the end of the year, once we return to school. Provincial exams probably won't be postponed, and teachers will just hope everyone has taught themselves the things they should have done while they've been out on stirke.

Woops, my mistake on the 35% wage increase, it is indeed 15%. Those were all rumours I was hearing, not what I was predicting. I haven't seen any website or news article stating when this strike is going to be finished. You're probably right that when we get back, everything will be the same and the teachers will have expected to have learned everything during this strike. But not one person I know that I know is doing any studying right now, and are treating this "break" as a vacation. The only schoolwork I have with me is the work I've done over September and the first week or so of October - Not alot to review. But I'm not really too worried about my grades falling because I only have English 12 and Physics 11 to worry about, so that's one Provincial exam that I have in January. All of my major classes are next semester. Most of English is grammer anyway and you study the book "Hamlet" by Shakespeare. But honetly the only textbook I was given this year so far was a Short Story book for English, not much to learn out of that. I support the teachers in this, but the students aren't getting anything good out of this.
