The ramp at Porteau Cove was built for emergency use for when there is a large landslide on the Squamish highway that completely blocks traffice and the only way around is by use of ferry traffic.
It is maintained for that specific reason.

So if there was ever a slide would BC Ferries send a vessel up there or what happens if there is a slide what ferry do they use??? Would they go from Horseshoe Bay??

Yeah no kidding I don't know what they could use, except for the Garibaldi II in Squamish at Darrel Bay on the Highway

Well, thanks for that explanation!
I have wondered about the large dock at Porteau. I suppose any boat of the Q of Capilano class could load there .. could that ramp also handle Q of Surrey?
In a lengthy highway closure, BC Ferries surely would find boats to pick up folks at Porteau Cove. My guess is that capacious Capilano would work a lot of overtime.

Two more that I can think of that at least show BC Ferries sailing past are "The Other Side of the Monutain Part 2", where they sail on a 1970's V-class ship and also "The Russia House" 1990, where Sean Connery is at a house on Hood Point, Bowen Island, and you can see the Cowichan or the Coquitlam sailing by in the background to Langdale.

Oooo! definitely the Surrey or anything like that wouldn't fit in there, possibly the Capilano type. We launch our little boat down there when we go out for fishing and there isn't much for side bumpers to hold a larger ferry in and that ramp isn't that wide so it depends on what type of ferry could fit in there and plus the ramp is fenced off and dock has picnic tables all over it and doesn't look like much room to drive vehicles through

Who built it? (Province of BC, I guess) When? (anyone know?) Why?
That is a pretty elaborate structure, and it must have been engineered to fit an existing boat, or class of ferries.
I hope that Capilano was their first thought, being closest and most capacious of the open deck boats.
I wasn't kidding about Q of Surrey. If Porteau's dock is an emergency bypass of the highway, Surrey is the nearest boat after Capilano, and she's under-used in winter.
Could her lowest ramp board cars and people at Porteau? She could only bump into the slip, but Surrey has twin screws at both ends. A brave skipper can make her dance a ballet if needed.

I think the first Porteau Cove ferry dock was built in about 1982, after the tragic "M Creek" washout that killed several people. I was definitely upgraded significantly either late in the 1980's or early 1990's.

Theres lots of bridges on that highway where you can see the original road go along and then into a dropoff into a river right beside bridges you go over now, its pretty scary

Yeah. i've never seen that dock running, but im sure that the mayne queen, and the vesuvius queen could fit in ther (vesuvius is gone though). and im sure the kahloke, kulleet, klitsa, klatawa could all fit in there easily. but im sure that bc ferries wanted something a little bigger and a 25 car ferry when they built that dock
