The Queen of Vancouver should be the first one to go but I heard somewhere that the Queen of Saanich will be retired first.

Both the Vancouver and the Esquimalt have not had any major refits since they were lifted in the early 80's. They still have the asbestos ceilings, and you can see all the pipes, (my brother once spent an entire trip on the Esquimalt following pipes around the ship for the entire voyage to Langdale).

Monday January 31st the Queen of Naniamo goes for refit and the Queen of Tsawwassen takes over according to the RBI. We will have the SOBC out for 3 months, the Surrey will be going for refit so lots happening in the next month or so.

Although I'd rather have the Vancouver first, but I'd guess the Saanich is going first. Here's what I think: the Vancouver Island or Gulf Island side gets more priority from BC Ferries. The suplemenary vessel on HB-DB is based out of DB, correct? The Queen of Nanaimo is based out of the Gulf Islands...sure the Mainland gets the Bowen Queen in the summer, but look at her! The Burnaby is based out of Comox, which is on Vancouver Island. So, I'm coming to the conclusion that Vancouver Island (Swartz Bay) will get the first Super "C" ferry, and the Saanich is the current one there.

the queen of nanaimo is based on saltspring because it is easier for a ship there then at tsawwassen. first sailing off is at 0630 this makes it easier to get to the mainland for the day then you can return on the 1855 sailing.

Personally I am the opposite, I would rather see the Vancouver go first as the Saanich is the nicer one of the V class. And is still newer than the Vancouver. But that's my opinion.

Saanich is a mechanical piece, apparently. From a passenger perspecvtive I would like to see the Queen of Esquimalt bombed, and the pieces burned and melted down.
That being said I have a bias against Vs, I hate them all.

V-Class stands for Valiant-Class, i do not think that the v-class is very valiant anymore.

the v class ahs suck a bad rep, just because the least amount of money is spent on thier upkeep. all the money goes to keeping the spirits and the C claas and B Class up and running, and the V's rott. i think they would have an operational life of over 50 Years with some proper upkeep and some preventative maintinenece

Yeah I think it's time for them to go too because they have smaller capacity and slower speed. But I still think it is neat to see them on route on a hot summer day out in the water. Yesterday was a good day to see Queen of Esquimalt in the Straight of Geogia as she was about 15 mins from being in Horseshoe Bay and Queen of Coquitlam was about the same but headed for Nanaimo. But we were stopped on the Upper Levels Highway due to a rockslide and all of the rocks mangled one of the newly posted signs on the Highway and Queen of Surrey had just arrived, so cars were trying to get off but they couldn't because of the cars getting off of the Sea to Sky were building up, and it was rush hour, and traffic was lined all along the Upper Levels all the way to the Caulfield Rd Exit like it was all of the time before they changed the Highway for the terminal. But anyways back to what I was saying...They do the major routes slower and they're breaking down more causing more frustration for people especially on Holidays. But I honestly think they are still only best suited for the Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen route because they do the route in the same time as the spirits and there's no hold ups, then if they're on say Duke Point or Departure Bay route they take longer and theres more and more cars that have to stay behind because of the smaller capacity. I like the idea of what someone on here said by putting them the Gulf Islands route like Saltspring, well not all 3 of the V maybe 1 or 2 would be good.

it wouldn;t be so much. if they had kept them in better shape in the first place. check out the difference between the Kiltsa(BCF) and the klatawa(Translink) both are ship built at roughly the same time.(klatawa first by about 5 years) and yet the klatawa will out live the klitsa by over 10 years (50 years v 35 years)

Maybe if we all pitch in we can get BC Ferries to lend us a V class say the Saanich on New Years eve and we can all have a New Years bash on her. Sail from Swartz Bay, pick up the guys from Saltspring at Long Harbour, head over to Tsawwassen, then over to Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay, have a cruise and a new years bash. That would be cool! Like that would ever happen though. Cool idea though!

If we had sold our house and property back when the Queen of Victoria was being sold, on a GOOD day, we would have enough money to afford her.

But what really gets me wondering is, why did they sell her for so cheap?

she had major things wrong with her. and now...they have just gotten worse. which is why the company that owns her is selling her again

Ahhh, yes, the old V-class. What I really miss are the solariums and the old two-tone green dogwood carpeting. When I was a kid, I'd always sneak into the compartments on each side of the stern doors on the car deck, the ones with the three openings on each side. You'd get a really cool view of the wake from there. When I was about 17, my two buddies and I got caught drinking in there by a deckhand. Seemed like a logical place at the time, nice and private. The deckhand was NOT impressed!

I shot gun Captain. When I get older I really want to be a captain of a cruise ship and during my shore leave a bc ferry captain.
