According to RBI, the Queen of Coquitlam is taking over for the Oak Bay Monday morning, Mar 30. The Oakey will be back at the beginning of May. We all have our favorite ship, and the Coquitlam is mine, although I know others may not share my opinion I echo "ferryfanyvr". The QUEEN OF COQUITLAM is my favorite BC ferry as well. Took a full round trip on her on the HB-DP run about ten or so years ago. Very fine ferry, indeed. She's been redone after my trip, but I think she's still just as good now as she was then. Best ferry in the fleet.

My g/f likes the Queen of Coquitlam too we did like two trips up to see her when she was on route 3 while the Surrey was in refit. I do like the Cowichan and Coquitlam a bit more than the Surrey and Oak Bay although not when their busy but any ferry I dont like when there busy. Where is the Cowichan right now???

From a blog 'Slow Coast' by Tom Read...
Alas, Texada’s North Island Princess limped off to drydock Tuesday afternoon. I say “limped” because it had been operating on one engine since Sunday, and required the services of a $300-per-hour tug to maneuver into port. Let’s see, at $300-per-hour for two or three days that’s… probably one reason why ferry fares keep rising. Anyway, Mother Nature threw in high winds and a vicious chop all day Tuesday, causing the good ship NIP to give it all up for a refit. Meanwhile, the Tachek (originally known as Texada Queen when she was commissioned in 1969 for the local route, and fondly remembered as the Upchuck by a couple generations of Texada teens) steamed over from Hornby Island to rescue stranded travelers on both sides of Malaspina Strait, including us. Our normal six-hour trip to Powell River turned into an 18-hour day while we waited. And waited. But that’s island life, eh?

I was chatting with the Chief Steward on the Queen of Burnaby during my circle trip last week, and she told me the Burnaby is going in for a short refit (approx 2 weeks) sometime in May. The Queen of Chilliwack will be the replacement vessel on route 17 during that time. The 'wack did some dock trials at both Westview and Little River before she started her current refit so I guess the shallow water at Little River won't pose a problem.

Is the Queen of Coquitlam going in for refit soon because she is not the #2 boat on route#3 over the may long weekend the Cow is doing extra sailings for both routes 2&3 the Friday of the May long weekend?
Is it just more cost effictive to have 1 vessel do the triagnle route for that holiday weekend?

Is the Queen of Coquitlam going in for refit soon because she is not the #2 boat on route#3 over the may long weekend the Cow is doing extra sailings for both routes 2&3 the Friday of the May long weekend? From the very first post in this thread, the Queen of Coquitlam was one of the first boats in for refit after summer 2008. Is it just more cost effictive to have 1 vessel do the triagnle route for that holiday weekend? Ummm. . .YES! Surely staffing one boat is more cost effective than staffing two. I don't recall the last time the Queen of Cowichan was on Route 3. I may just have to plan a route 3 trip on the Cowichan during the May Long Weekend.

Although the Cowichan has been used on route 3 as part of the triangle route several times, the last time she was BASED at Langdale was in 1996

While in the Gulf islands yesterday, I noticed that Mayne Queen has recieved a DBC slide located at car deck level next to the exhaust blisters.
