Darn! Looks like I need to re-read the rules! It's like having to pick which kids you like best. I guess I'll go with... Fairweather, Taku Sunset Arrival and LeConte in Tenakee Inlet. Thanks for everyone's patience while my learning curve steepens. I've edited out the "non chosen" that weren't listed in the above direction from the member. They are receiving counselling support.

It's really too bad, because those were really spectacular photos, and not many of us have really good photos of AMHS vessels. We'll be losing quite a bit of selection. I really liked the one of the Tustumena which is my favorite among the Alaska vessels. I also found out that, contrary to popular wisdom (mostly my own), the three-sisters Malaspina, Matanuska and Taku are not identical, as the Malaspina especially is clearly different in physical appearance from the other two.

I also found out that, contrary to popular wisdom (mostly my own), the three-sisters Malaspina, Matanuska and Taku are not identical, as the Malaspina especially is clearly different in physical appearance from the other two. The three were built virtually identical, but the Malaspina (in 1972) and the Matanuska (in 1968) were lengthened about 56 feet. Over time they all have been modified or "updated" in various ways. A few examples, the Malaspina has an aft mast located aft of the solarium, while the other two do not. The Taku still has the original exterior decks outboard on the cabin deck, while that space became more cabins on the other two. Both the Taku and the Matanuska have the "wings" on their stacks while the Malaspina doesn't. And (to me) the most glaring difference, the Taku and the Matanuska both have three Lifeboats and one Fast Rescue Boat, While the Malaspina has zero Lifeboats and two Fast Rescue Boats. I could go on and on, especially on the differences in the interiors, but like real sisters, each ship has its similarities as well as its differences. Good observation! ~LeC

I really liked the one of the Tustumena which is my favorite among the Alaska vessels. Thank you for the compliment! I had two photos of the Tusty that I had prepped. The other one showed the car elevator better, but I like the angle on the one I showed better. It took me almost a week sorting through my photos and figuring out how to crop and format them. It was fun and I got carried away, and when I was done I had over 50! Hopefully I will be able to use them in the future. Thanks again! ~LeC

Good observation! ~LeC Sounds like I need to do some more photo comparisons. It would be very interesting to see some good interior photos that illustrate the differences as well. It just seems that of all the local ferry fleets, the Alaska system is the one we all have the least access to, so it's mostly a mystery to us.

... the Taku and the Matanuska both have three Lifeboats and one Fast Rescue Boat... I realized I goofed. The Taku has 2 Lifeboats and 1 FRB. Just trying to prevent miss-information! ~LeC

Are pictures that show more than one Alaska ferry allowed?

Thanks for everyone's patience while my learning curve steepens. I (and many others, I suspect) would appreciate it if you would share more of your AMHS photography with us. You could use the existing US ferries photo thread, or better yet, create a new one dedicated to AMHS. Another bonus would be that you are not restricted to the ~1x4 aspect ratio required for 'banner' pics. Please, let us see more....

Thank you all for the kind words. Unfortunatley I am at work right now and my internet access is... limited. I will see if I can get some photos prepped and put into the Northwest U.S. Ferries Photos folder as soon as I am home again. Thanks Again!

Hey all,
I will be moving the deadline back from 9PM tomorrow to 12 NOON tomorrow.
I am at a christmas party for work tomorrow evening so I am unable to facilitate the poll in the evening.
The Christmas Flagship deadline will remain the same.
Cheers,
