First, I thought that we should honour the QPR., but we did that in January 2009.
Then I thought that we should honour the NorEx, but let's wait until we have more of a chance to take action shots of it in-service (and to wait until JST has attended the open-ship at Prince Rupert).
So, what to do? - well another ship was in the news about the end of her life; the MV Lady Rose. Do we really care about her?
So I decided to springboard the Lady Rose news onto a theme based on BC working freight-passenger ships.
So the eligible ships are: - Lady Rose - Frances Barkley - Uchuck-III - Seaspan ships (Doris, Greg, Superior, Carrier)
Limit of 3 nominations per person, unless we have a lack of nominations from others and someone has more than 3 good banner-quality pics.
If you don't have pics, and want some: - find the Lady Rose at the wharf in Alberni - take a trip this month on the Frances Barkley - snap a pic of a Seaspan ship from a BC Ferry.
Regular flagship rules apply to nominations, so please read the rules in the main rules thread. Sometimes I can be picky, so.....
My intent is to honour the Lady Rose. But banner-quality pics might be limited, so I expanded the fleet to include the Uchuck & Barkley. In case that's still too limited, I expanded again to include Seaspan. So Seaspan is filler.
I'm really hoping that someone has a banner-quality pic of the Lady Rose. Please let this staggered criteria influence your voting. If there are good nominations of the classic coasters, lets focus on those in our voting.
I am reserving the right to later narrow the criteria to exclude Seaspan, in the event that we have enough good nominations of the others. I will be interested in your feedback on this, as the month progresses.
Have fun.
PS: nominations close at end of April 28th. Voting will happen between April 29-30.

Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of the Lady Rose, Frances Barkley or the Uchuck-III. So that leaves me only with Seaspan ships, and my one and only entry of the Seaspan Doris. Full-size located here.

Well now... I admit I have some Seaspan photos, which I could enter.
But... there are other working boats on this coast besides Seaspan and the already acknowledged coasters. You could compile quite a list of the Aurora Explorer, the former A.J. Savoie, now the R.J. Bredner... even the former Queen of Tsawwassen could now be considered a non-ferry, working coaster, not to mention various other tugs and towing companies that all 'work' up and down the coast, and even on some rivers and lakes.

I do have some Lady Rose photos but nothing that will fit into the 4x1 aspect ratio. Seaspan photos will have to do... Here is one of the former CP ferry, Carrier PrincessLarger size here

For the second month in a row I actually have a photo that will work. This one taken in mid July, 2008 of the M/V Uchuck-III approaching Hoiss Point Lodge in Nootka Sound. Full Size [Here]Please view the full size as the compressed version always looks blurry, in my opinion.

I only have slides available of Seaspan ships. So we will see how motivated I am to get them scanned. I presume you are looking for self propelled vessels rather than barges being towed . I have a couple photos from Inside Passage trips with everything including the kitchen sink piled on barges. Trucks, cars, tankers, trailers and all sorts of things heaped on top of Shipping Containers. Plus a whole logging camp moving to its new location.

I presume you are looking for self propelled vessels rather than barges being towed . Yes, the 4 self-propelled ships of Seaspan that I had listed. ----------- I can probably find 2 pics of Frances Barkley from my recent trip, and I might have something with Lady Rose. I'm hoping that John H. can format some of his Lady Rose pics too. Hopefully the list of nominations will be a good mix of old & new for freight-ferries.

Fluge,
My advice is to drop the Seaspan and just go with the Coasters, those that are descendants of (or similar to) the old days of Union Steamships and the smaller CP coasters. We should have another month somewhere in the not to distant future where the theme would be Seaspan.
This would obviously leave me out in the cold in terms of offerings this time around. I would be quite happy to have one of John H's Lady Rose pics at the helm during the month of May (or maybe even a photo by Fluge offering).

Do you mind if we eliminate the Seaspan from the ballot? Do you think that we have enough of the classic old ships already nominated? We've got 1 pic of the Uchuck-III, a few of the Lady Rose (including a gem of an in-action pic by John), and a couple of the Frances Barkley. Maybe we should make a short ballot of the old ships? We can save the Seaspan nominations for a future month's theme. Again, let me know if any of you have a problem with the Seaspan elimination.

I think it is a good idea... It might be a bit of a refreshing change to have something that is not just 'a ferry' for the flagship for a month. I'm only sorry to the rest of you, because we have some old photos of both the Lady Rose and Frances Barkley around somewhere, but have been unsuccessful in bringing them to light.

Ok, so I've decided to remove the Seaspan pics from this month's ballot, and just focus on the old coaster ships. If we haven't had a "ships of Seaspan" month by the time it's my flagship-choice again, I'll do it on my next turn in the rotation. So keep taking pictures of Seaspan ships with banner potential, and we'll do that as a future theme. Thanks for letting me modify the theme.
