Construction is coming along at Departure Bay. The waiting lounge is shaping up nicely now at a good pace. These photos are over a week old, however the major difference right now, is the roof status. In these photos, the roof installation was only beginning with the layer of insulation, and the first layer of torch on base sheet. Today, most of the roof looked more or less watertight with the insulation installed, and first layer of torch on basesheet down. One more layer for it to match the Quay roof. But, I'm not too sure what the cranes are around for. My guess is that there's some sort of breakwater being formed out of rocks, to contain some of the Renaissance river wash.

I wonder if there is going to be an outside baloney like before they started construction.

that would be very nice. I liked that. I also like how the windows in the DeparBay terminal open right up so the room is open to the outside

Update from yesterday, Saturday August 1st. Things are coming along now. The roof is nearly complete, and only fine detailing such as perimeter cap flashings are needed still. Cement detailing and any other exterior detailing is coming along nicely. The interior however though, is still a long ways off, while the wiring, plumbing, insulation is still being worked on.

2 weeks ago I asked a Departure Bay terminal attendant if he knew what the waiting room's completion date was estimated to be.....he said they're hoping for sometime in November.

An update at Tsawwassen from today. Notice how Berth 3 is now being affected by this renovation as well. Foot passengers travelling on Route 30 now board via the car deck. This slows down the loading process immensely. Also the Berth 3 lounge is partially closed off.

Too bad they don't load passengers via the upper car deck since the lower car deck always takes longer to load. Perhaps it's more noticeable with the C-class ships since they have gallery decks, but I think generally the upper car deck is loaded quicker. Is there a reason the upper car deck is not used? Other than they haven't built the terminals with easy access to the upper car deck ramp (Horseshoe Bay would be an exception).

Yeah, foot passenger pre-boarding areas do not having access to the UCD ramps at Tsawwassen. Both stairwells at Berth 3 and 5 exit to the MCD ramp only. Route 30 is the only major route that is still scheduled with a 30 minute turnaround. This combined with its low walk-on volume should not be pose an issue for on-time performance.

Cldnt they finsh it fastr than tht? They'v already been wrking on it for awhil... ;D This phase of construction started in November of last year. Work includes complete replacement of Berth 4's overhead walkway, vehicle loading ramps, dolphins and wingwalls. Berth 3 will receive a new overhead walkway and renovations to the waiting lounge. Seismic upgrades will be done, as well.
