The Queen of Cowichan spent much of last evening on Sea Trials in the Straight of Georgia, I was monitering it on the scanner but at about 10:00pm it sounded like the COWICHAN had to launch its rescue boat and pick someone up. The Ferry switched over to marine channle 83A. Reception was not all that great but I did hear something about the rescue boat been launched. Scott since you have ties to the Crew at Departure Bay maybe you can fill us in. I notice the Coquitlam is till replacing her today.

I haven't heard anything about the launching of the Cowichan's rescue boat last night. It could have been done for a drill, but I will see if I can find out more information on that...
However, I know that the Cowichan was out for more sea-trials today, and is set to resume service on Route 2 tomorrow morning.

I heard her as she was sailing in the Gulf Yesturday, she was actually up past Halibut Bank which is off of Sechelt towards Merry Island then sailed south then headed back to Horseshoe Bay. She tied up at Departure Bay. Queen of Cowichan on Nov 19.

Alright, I suppose this question is relevant to this thread. But perhaps I missed something (not likely, because I try to read each thread quite thuroughly).
Does anyone know why the Coquitlam was running in place of the Cowichan today?
Was the Cowichans refit last month not enough?
Or is it because seeming the Renaissance will run in place of the Cowichan in the Spring, does this mean the Cowichan has been delegated to supplemental service already? I don't think this is the case though.
Unless, seeming the Cowichan and Coquitlam are both based out of Departure Bay right now... Will they switch back and forth between which ones get run on Route 2, just so a Ferry isn't left sitting around for too long? Ie: So the stores onboard don't expire (food), or maintenance is kept in order.

Does anyone know why the Coquitlam was running in place of the Cowichan today? I am not positive, but I heard it was something to do with her anchor. Thus the Coquitlam sailed as Departure Bay's number one boat...

They were doing drills on the Cowichan during the day, I noticed the zodiac Zooming around in the Bay while the Coquitlam was docking, hence her rather strange approach to her dock.
The Cowichan did sail the 7pm trip.

The Cowichan did sail the 7pm trip. I dont think it was drills.. I was listining in on the scanner and could hear the deck crew having a lot of trouble getting her right in to dock and tie her up. Lots of talk between the deck crew and the bridge about "dont let off power" "pulling the lines to hard" and the bridge talknig about "last time it de-cluched" From the conversation (came in on it late) I could gather that they where trying to get her correctly in to dock, but I think they where having problems at one of the drive ends causing her to drift back and almost rip the lines off. The deck hands got excited a few times during the conversation.

Why was the Zodiac in the water?
Because I saw the Zodiac I assumed they were just having drills.
I wonder if the Coastal class ships will have problems like the C Class.

As has been mentioned in many other threads, the Coastal class have absolutely nothing in common with the C-class, aside from the fact that they are double enders. The Coastals are diesel electric, with 4 main generators located in 2 separate engine rooms. Each electric drive motor is also separated from the other machinery. I really don't think there is much possibility of drive issues happening, providing BCF keeps up regular maintenance (and even then, electric motors don't require a lot of TLC).

But we're talking about the ' Cowichan having these troubles yesterday, right? I'm guessing that you're mentioning why this won't be a problem for the 'Coastals', Nick.
