In various discussions on this site there is talk about various BC Ferry classes - V-class, B-class, C-class, etc. My 2-cents worth is as follows: - If we consider the Alberni to be a C-class, why do we not consider the B's to actually be V's? The Q of Nanaimo is more similar to a V then the Alberni is to the other C's. Certainly the New Westminster today is much more like a V then it is like another B.
- Twin Sisters = Cowichan & Coquitlam or Esquimalt & Saanich or Nanaimo & Burnaby.
- Sisters = Vancouver & New Westminster - there are many other examples.
- Cousins = Tsawwassen/Sidney & all of V's & B's, as well as Coho, and even the original AMHS 'blue canoes'.
I used to refer to the B's & V's together as the 'seven sisters', as when built they were almost identical. Subsequent varying modifications may make them today more like cousins. And the oldest sister, as we know, has now passed on... What do you think?

One of the reasons why the Al is a C Class is that she has the Same Hull and Car Deck Design she was built differently then was lifted to sort of match her sisters. Probabley there are only 3 reasons the B Class isn't the V Class 1.No Upper Car Deck, 2.The Funnel isn't supported like on the V Class, and 3.The Snack Bar and Gift Shop are opposite. You Could Call them V Class but they're more like two different classes

All of the 'seven sisters' have/had the same hull and foot print and as built superstructures that are/were virtually identical. Same class? - yes.

Are we just talking about Major vessels? Or Minor vessels too. Why were the Quinsam and Quinitsa built differently, they are sisters but look more like cousins. I must say I prefer the Quinsam. (Obviously! )

I actually prefer a ferry to a barge!, lol!!! The Cumbie and Capilano and Mayne and Bowen, Tachek, ect.. are real ferries compared to the Quinsam Quinsta and Skeena Queen barges!! ;D

It's the same with PRQ and MQ/BQ.

They were built 5 years apart, for 2 different routes. There wasn't really any ferries that were identical, besides the Klatawa and Kulleet, that were part of the highways, that were identical twin sisters. But many are similar though.

Would the HoweSoundQueen be a step-sister to the Bowen/Mayne Queens?
Or would she just be the new french girl who has moved into the neighbourhood ?

And the sisters Bowen and Mayne no doubt feel terrible about the ghastly plastic surgery that their sister Powell River has had, and the three of them would NEVER admit to having the same parents as the Howe Hound. Yucch!

Identical twins = the Burrard Beaver & Burrard Otter, or Queen of Saanich & Queen of Esquimalt.
The resemblance of the HSQ to the MQ/BQ is a factoid only of parallel evolution. They do not even qualify as cousins.
What is your opinion today regarding the class of the Queen of New Westminster? Would you insist on calling it a B, or admit that it really has a lot more in common with the V's?

Probably the true afficionados on this board, that is, the guys who measure the size of the window openings on the car decks, would put the New West in her own class, where the less astute among us might call her a 'V', 'cause she kind of looks like one.

The PRQ is the sister who had plastic surgery done, to get extra deck-clearance-cleavage put in.
The MQ & BQ had better self-esteem, and were happy as they were.
Then they all decided to take the plunge and get a stretch-job, likley as some sort of pact made by the ya-ya-sisterhood that they were.
Really, is there any other explanation........

Really Karl, can you tell the difference between a barge and a ferry? Quinsam, Quinitsa, and Skeena Queen are ferries, they may be barges in your opinion, but in my opinion they are pure ferries just like every other vessel in the BCF fleet.

True, I was being funny! lol! I just prefer ferries like the Bowen, Mayne, Capilano, Cumberland where you can actually see something with those big high passenger decks that are way better for viewing than in a car deck lounge where you can only see out the side.

Only because the New West is arranged like a V, but it really is a B.
