How many people on this forum were born in the same year as a bc ferry was built? If you are then list the ferry! Personally, I am born the same year as the SOBC! (kind of ironic because it is the spirit I see 85% of the time I see a spirit!)

I checked John H's fleet page, and I don't match any of them for birth/launch years.
But I am very very close to both the Tachek and the Quadra Queen II.

I was born the same year as the Dogwood Princess II. And I was one month and 2 days old when the Queen of Alberni almost flipped over in Active Pass!

For me it's the Queen of Oak Bay and Surrey! I am the same age as the Oaky and Surrey and that's pretty cool!

Queen of Cumberland for me I was Born about a Week after the Queen of Capilano Left the Saltery Bay Route and I think a month after the Cumbie was put into service and Launched Something Like that.

Queen of Capilano. I always wondered why I found it particularly handsome (LOL) amongst the major vessels at Horseshoe Bay (compared to my normal "minor vessel" perspective).

I don't match up with any vessel, but the JAB is within a year and the Quinsam is within two.

Both me and the Quinsam were born 10 years apart. I was born in 1992 Quinsam was launched in 1982 A decade's difference.

Hmm. Quite a few I class folks just squeaking by the age minimum, not unlike myself...

Oh, great. Popped out the same year as the Mill Bay. A dumpy little ferry with no amenities that's trudged back and forth on the same route for fifty years, because it's not good enough to go anywhere else. If it were astrology, it would be like having a black hole for your sun sign.

oohhh, that's harsh. Look on the bright side: You're negative two years younger then the North Island Princess, a ferry that actually has some meaning.

Any ferries dating back to my birth year - that being the year that Roger Bannister and John Landy ran the miracle mile at Empire Stadium? It was also the year that Prince Phillip poured a ceremonial 'ingot' to mark the completion of BC's largest mega-project.
MV Mill Bay is closest in age to me. I did get to ride on the Sidney and/or Tsawwassen when they were brand new, and I was just about to enter Grade 1. I even traveled on the CPR boats once or twice but I can not remember.

Ok, you Geezers, I'm in there with you . But, Ironicly, of all the ships I am the same age of, is the one I know the best, the Sidney! She makes me feel good, because I am doing better than she is.

I remember when WAC (Wacky) Bennett announced the formation of BC Ferries. My Dad and my future husband were building the boats. My Dad drove us out one Sunday afternooon to see the uncompleted Swartz Bay Terminal.----the pavement was not even put down yet. However, they were working on the docks.

There are no surviving BC Ferries, and very few seaworthy ships anywhere launched in my year (1948).
*sigh*
It was a great time, though. While I kicked my crib in East Vancouver, Empresses and Princesses met the 3 daily transcontinental CPR trains at the foot of Granville Street; Union Steamships covered the coast from the Columbia Street dock; and North Vancouver was a 5-cent boat ride.
