With all this hot weather we have been having do all ferries in the fleet have Air Conditioning? A few of us seem to think the V's dont but I would think they should have a/c on all the major ferries. Anyone know? And which ferries dont have them?? If any!

This is an interesting concept that I've thought of in the past. Air conditioning on ferries. The best fact that they could deal with is that the water itself is very cold, despite the hot water. They could use intakes on the hull and use the cold water to develop cold air for the passenger decks...using a radiator or maybe turbine (?) device. Then the water can run out with the bilge. It's been done with cold ocean water before in buildings, why not on ferries?

I remember taking a trip on Oak Bay back in the summer of 2003, and it was like an oven in the passenger decks. Everyone was outside on the outer decks, just lovin' the breeze. Wandering on the passenger decks that day made you think there wasn't a full load aboard, but if you went outside, you'd know right away there's a full load. So I'm assuming there wasn't A/C during the original C-Class scheme. But when you board an upgraded C-Class in the summer, you know right away that its Air conditioned, because I actually rather be outside as it gets almost a little too cold with the A/C!

Yeah, I kind of thought the new "C" Class vessels have air conditioning from past experience in 2004. But wasn't too sure....

especially at night with the A/C going it gets a bit cold. I remember that from being on the Spirits in the evening during the summer.

The v class have 1 A/C unit which feeds chilled water to all of the fan rooms. So yes they have A/C. The Spirits have 11 A/C units feeding all passenger and crew spaces

I recall seeing signs like that on most of the C class. The Cowichan likely had A/C after her 1996 refit.

It's not suppose to be as hot tommorrow. It says on the weather office it is suppose to be 25 but I heard on the Vancouver radio stations it's suppose to be 29.

Well I know the SOVI has air conditioning. I was on the 9pm sailing from Tsawwassen Wednesday night and it was a bit cool inside with the air conditioning on.

I wish there was A/C in all the buildings in Kelowna. Yesterday we hit 41 Degrees, and this afternoon it looks about the same. Fortunatley, we managed to find a DQ okay.

Now I know that this may be a departure from conventional thought, but given the speeds that most ships run, and given that most ships provide a shaded source, maybe an alternate to an A/C source may be to just go outside in a shaded source? I have traveled on enough runs over the years to know that if you are shaded, there is enough "Blow" to cool an individual. If we all want a "Cadillac" to cross a stretch of water, we sure as hell better not complain about the cost of A/C, as is it not a cheap proposition for a ship of any size! Better ventilation and deck access is a more viable option vs. the "Cadillac" of transport.
Besides, you'll enivetibly have the old granny complaining to the crew that the interior is too cold, complicated by the fact that she (Or he) suffers from hypothyroidism........... Just go outside and soak up the NATURAL A/C............(With Gatorade, Powerade if need be....... Oh ya, and sun block too)

First the outside decks would be jammed, second not everyone wants to sit outside, third a majority of people wouldn't realize to go outside to XXX spot to stay cool.

Oh hell, I'm NOT saying everyone crowd out on the outer decks to catch the "Fresh" air, all I am suggesting is that if there is an alternative to A/C, by improving the interior ventilation/circulation, and would keep the interior temp. at an ambient temperature pleasing to ALL, then great! Otherwise, A/C should be a LAST RESORT, as this proposition is NOT a cheap one. But it should NOT be overlooked if the interior temps. cannot be controlled during the peak temp. months. The young and elderly are the most succeptive to these conditions and everything should be done to avoid these individuals from succumbing to this......
My two pennies worth.........

I can now confirm the Queen of Saanich has A/C as I was on her 8pm sailing from Tsawwassen last night and in some areas it was a bit chilly inside with the A/C on. Not sure about the Vancouver as I cant remember if she had A/C in the morning when I went over on her.

I'm pretty sure most of the Ferries have A/C. We should have known the Saanich would of had it because of her Upgrade a decade ago
