Anyone ever noticed the nice little garden located between berths 2 and 3 (I think those are the right numbers) at Horseshoe Bay? It's not accessable to passengers, but I noticed it from the balcony beside the Langdale-departures waiting lounge. Under the waiting lounge is what I assume are the employee "offices" and lunchroom, and whatever else they need. And the garden is located on the rocks between the two berths. It looked very pretty, nicely designed, and well taken care of. I assume its one or two employees' special project.

I noticed that, the last time I was at HorseShoeBay. Scott from this forum mentioned to me that this was done by an employee.....he knows the facts better than me, and can fill us in on the real story !

The garden in between berths two and three was done by a former employee who passed away... After he died, the employees at HB worked together to continue to expand the garden - which they continue to do... The garden is named after the employee who created it...

Yeah, that little garden has been there for a few years now. It looks very nice, because it gets rid of alot of that conrete look around the docks. I'm not a gardner at all, nor do I take an intersest in them, but this is one of the ones that does catch my eye whenever I take a Horseshoe Bay ferry. I just skimmed through all of my photos, and no luck. But I know I took some video of it, almost everytime I was going to Nananimo. So if nobody has an actual photo, I'll post a screenshot...

It fits in with the Beer Can Tree, as seen from Berth 4.
BTW, Jordan has pics of both, and I think Curtis has some too?

Forgive me for bumping this topic back to the top, but it's relevant. There was a 1 1/2 page article in "Our Canada" magazine on this garden with a few nice photos and a little story behind it. The magazine just came in the mail today, and I remembered the discussion about it a few months back on this board. Apparently the man behind it is Wayne Kwan. The article was submitted by a co-worker from Mayne Island, Dawne Cressman.

I can confirm, after having a good look at the "tree" the other day while sitting in berth 3 on the Coquitlam, that there's a mix between pop and beer cans...
