For some Veteran Posters on this forum this might remind you of that topic I made called... "Queen of Alberni What to Do About It".
But the Alberni's MLU is to happen in the next 2 months. and is going to cost 40 Million Dollars. and she Might not get out till 2008. Post your thoughts on this here.
The new seats, floors, Amenities, Etc. will happen. But what more can we see them do?

That thread brings back lots of good memories from the ancient days of this board. Starting in November I'll be keeping at eye on what goes on down at the shipyards in North Van. I go to Lonsdale Quay quite a bit, so I can get a good look.
If the Alberni does not get out until 2008, then that probably means they are adding more superstructure onto her.

He said that the Alberni would be done by the 2008 fiscal year which starts sometime in the spring. Meaning the prices may have skyrocketed for materials.

Would they do some work on the Alberni, let her out again for the summer season, and then put her back into drydock? Or would she be out for over a year straight?

The Alberni will be out before the start of summer schedule, June 2007. I'm told that she is to be re-engined. That is why the price tag is so high. Interior modifications will bring her cafeteria to the same style as the other "C" class, new washrooms, first aid room, crew accomodations, gift shop and I think the elimination of the "snack bar". Also, installation of Evacuation Slides and new Rescue Boats which will be stowed on the "sundeck". There will be no major expansion of the passenger accomodation as so many of you wish was the case. I regret that I won't be around to sail on her after the MLU.

Will the space from the snack bar be used for more Cafeteria space or Passenger Lounge space?

The Ferry corp. better becareful in what they wish for. Eliminating the snack bar is a bad move. It is one of those things when you take away things, it comes back to bite you. I know the Alberni is a trucker's ferry but it in the summer there are lots of passengers on it so I hope there is a modest passenger expansion.

I have only seen that snack bar open once, on a run from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay.

The new configuration of the cafeteria allows those wishing beverages or light snacks to bypass any line up, which was what the snack bar was mainly there for originally. Really it is rarely used on the Alberni now. Just a couple of months during the summer and Christmas.

Re-engined? Wow!
Any rumors on what is replacing the two M A K's?
I wonder if she'll get Wartsila's like her Route 30 running mate?

The Al is probably going to have the biggest change out of all of them. The Gift shop is in a strange spot and should be moved. Probably more car deck windows will be put in. When the Snack Bar is open it's like This Here Then there's the Gift Shop and Arcade Machines In Here The Gift Shop could go where the Snack Bar is. Leaving more room for the old gift shop area.

With apologies, I was told today that the Alberni will not be re-engined as originally planned. While it is felt by the engineers I talked to that she should get new engines, the bean counters apparently don't feel it's necessary. So I guess in 5 or 10 years they be forced to do it after one blows it's guts out and have to change them on short notice.. Oh well.

Isn't 2008 a reference to fiscal '08 when the work is paid off? Similarly the Surrey is fiscal '06/07?
