I know a few of you are planning to do the Cortes trip on the 28th so I dont how many people would be interested in doing a trip from HSB on Sunday either a quick jont to Snug Cove and either stay on or get off get some photos and catch the next one back or a roundtrip to Langdale. I am thinking about doing the Queen of Esquimalt on route 2 Sunday so I was thinking originally taking the 3pm to HSB then catching the 6:15pm back to Nanaimo but I was thinking if anyone wanted to meet up even at HSB for a few hours for photos or something I could come earlier on the 11:30am Queen of Esquimalt. I wouldent mind getting on her both ways and one trip would be during the day too better for photos. FYI the last 4 sailings out of HSB are $5.00 coast saver fares that night. Anyone interested? in meeting up or anything?? Just thought I would ask!

I am interested in this, especially seeing as how you are starting out at Dep Bay.
I'm not available until 1:00pm, so the 3:00pm sailing from Dep Bay sounds perfect.
I'm game for this.

Ah that's cool. Take the Cowichan over then return on the Esquimalt. Sounds good!

Jeez, by that time I'll be staying on the Island, and then you guys go and plan a trip which would have worked out perfect, if I was at home. Oh well, I'm hoping to do a round trip on the Howe Sound Queen and the Klitsa this weekend. That's way cooler than going on the Queen of Esquimalt

I have returned from this trip.
My portion was from Dep Bay to HSBay on Cowichan's 3:00pm, followed by a trip in the opposite direction on the Esquimalt, at 6:15pm
Highlights: - sitting in the Esquimalt's upstairs mid-ship lounge....with it's 1970's colour scheme. - docking at the seldom used Berth #1 at Departure Bay on the Esquimalt, and walking the old wood jetty as a foot passenger. I haven't been on that old jetty since the 1970's.....honest.
Film at 11, from Scott or Karl.

It was a very relaxing and enjoyable day overall, from the short round-trip hop over to Snug Cove, Bowen Island, on the Queen of Capilano that included myself, Karl and Scott during the day, to having a coffee as well as meeting up with Mr. Horn for a long chat in the cold that didn't seem nearly as long as my body temp was telling me after I left for my bus and everyone else for the Queen of Esquimalt back to Departure Bay's Berth 1.

It was really neat loading and departing from berth 1 this morning for the 11:30am sailing. There were no trucks just cars on this sailing and the upper vehicle deck wasent used at all going over and on the last trip back at 6:15 so it was a nice quiet sailing both ways. Too bad Graham missed out on the Esquimalt part of the trip. Nice quiet sailings on the Esquimalt!

I was on the 7pm out of Departure Bay on the Cowichan. Had a nice trip with another forum member (my wife) and a future forum member (my daughter)! Only the main car deck was used (but not the gallery decks) and it was about 70% full. Very quiet sailing, and very cheap:)

Did you get to steer the Cowichan in the dark, John ? Or are you only certified to steer the minor vessels....

They would never let him steer- he was with his wife, and you know how sensitive BC Ferries is about couples on the bridge.....

haha.....not that your comment refers to anything that could have possibly happened in 2006, but I do need to acknowledge the creativity here.

I think it's interesting that, despite the new fans on the car deck, the crew still opens the rear door to clear car exhaust while unloading. I wonder if the fans are not enough, or the crew continues to do this just out of habit? Great images Graham!

they probably do that and the fans just to make it a little easier on their lungs.

Following the line of conversation, but a little off topic... I was annoyed during my ferry travels over the holidays with the inconsiderate people who start their cars before the ferry has even finished docking. It never fails... there's always someone (usually a lot more than one) who shows no consideration for the crew or other passengers.

I was waiting to get off the Yakima in Friday Harbor back in September and a guy did that to me, right in front of me. I was up on the galley ramp and we were the last to unload too. Started his car before we even docked. To make it worse I was in my convertible, with the top down, so I got all the fumes.
