So far, we got some sailing waits today because there is no supplementary service from spare vessels.
1 sail wait Langdale-Horseshoe Bay 1 sail wait Departure Bay-HSB next sailling 60% full already 1 sail wait Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay next sailling 52% full 2 sail wait Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen 7:00p.m. already 60% full BTW, Duke Point service is stopping after 5:45 pm departure. Now why did they do all those extra sailings yeterday? They should have done them today!

I noticed the same thing the week before when there were extra sailings on Christmas Eve when they probably weren't needed. In fact one extra sailing was cancelled.
Different reasons I suppose. Management probably doesn't like paying to crew an extra ferry on a stat holiday since the crew probably get paid at least time and a half.

Maybe it's because traffic isn't one-hundred percent predictable? It's easy to knock in retrospect, guys.

This year New Year's Day (NYD) came on a Monday. BCFS's was running the basic schedule with no supplementary sailings at all. Yet for all intents and purposes this was the third day of a holiday weekend. Many ferry users would be travelling home to go back to work following the 3 day weekend, or even following a full week off over the Christmas-New Year period. It is resonable to expect heavier traffic than would usually be anticipated on that day.

New Years Day and Christmas Day. are designated as super stats and are paid at double time and a half. Hence as many personnel as possible are stood down and there are no extra sailings scheduled. As well, rte 30 only goes from 1015 - 2015. These of course are cost saving measures as well as an opportunity for as many employees as possible to enjoy the holidays with their families.

Double time & half? 2.5x the regular rate? Can anyone else confirm this?

I think it's the average union deal. My brother is a nurse and he gets that.
BTW, if any of you end up in the psych ward, look out for him and tell him you know me. Maybe he won't shove the needle in so hard:)

Double time & half?
2.5x the regular rate?
Everyone gets paid an extra day for working a stat holiday (at least they should). If you're lucky enough to work for a strong union company, then you also get paid time-and-a-half for working the stat, hence the double time and a half.
If you don't work the day, you still get paid the extra day like us regular Joe's.
I've heard of some movie production companies paying overtime on stat holidays! That'll get you into tripple-, even quad-time!! Imagine how much tax the government would take off that paycheque!!
