Does anyone know which V-Class is at Deas right now alongside the QPR. Last week I noticed they were building alot of staging on the outer decks and now it is wrapped in plastic?
Any ideas which vessel and what work is being done?

I assume it's the Queen of Burnaby having that work done. I remember the Queen of Nanaimo having the same thing done last winter when she was in drydock in North Van.

The Burnaby is the only vessel is could be. The other B and V-Class boats were all in service for Easter weekend.

If memory is serving me correctly... I believe this ship has an upper car deck.

OK then, it can't be the Burnaby... unless you speak of the platform decks on the interior of the ship. Here is a picture of the Burnaby... was it this boat? tinypic.com/view.php?pic=48d8eqe

It's the Burnaby. She's undergoing an upgrade to the interior areas, and has been shrink wrapped for painting of the outer decks.

If memory is serving me correctly... I believe this ship has an upper car deck. Deas is quite deceiving that way as the tides can change the height of those vessels significantly. If you're ever near a radio and know you'll be passing southbound through the tunnel (or northbound too for transit users who don't have to pay attention to the road), you can tune into News 1130 for their marine forecast at one minute to the hour, 24hrs a day, that includes the tides; obviously you'll get the better view of whatever vessels are at Deas with a higher tide.

I saw the marshmallow on Saturday, which leads me to beleive that it is the Vancouver. Weren't all of the other V's in use over the Easter weekend?
Rememeber, I am not one of those "in the know" on this board, but I am just using the process of elimination....

Definatly the Queen of Burnaby, cause every other of her sisters is out of refit.

The Queen of Vancouver was in service last weekend so it wouldent be her. It probably is the Queen of Burnaby!

Got a better look this morning... it is a single deck vessel, so short of seeing the name and knowing the Nanaimo is in service, it is obviously the Burnaby.

Oh yeah, it certainly is the 'Burnaby; she's been there undergoing a major refit equivalent to what the 'Nanaimo was treated to recently for weeks now, sitting in the same position the whole time.

The esteemed members of this board were again correct, and I was wrong. The marshmallow at Deas is (as has been confirmed by now) the Burnaby. The Vancouver was pressed into service today to replace the ailing Coquitlam on the DepBay-HSB run.

The Queen of Esquimalt is replacing the Queen of Coquitlam/Alberni. The Queen of Saanich is the 2nd boat at Swartz Bay The Queen of Vancouver is running on Fridays and Sundays out of Tsawwassen The Queen of New West is on her regular sailings. Queen of Tsawwassen out of Little River. Queen of Nanaimo Regular service SGI That leaves Queen of BBY at Dease Dock

Here she is in early March, in the same position, along with the NA at left and the Tenaka and Queen of Surrey at right

Here's what I think happened:
Proud Canuck did in fact see a double-deck ferry. He saw... the Queen of Richmond.
It's ghost mysteriously appears every year on the first week of April at Deas Marine because it was there and then that she sank at her berth in 1986.
Here's the story:
After the new C class boats arrived, BC Ferries was so concentrated and distracted on constantly fixing the C class for service on the major routes, that the Queen of Richmond's problem, which was a hole in the hull, was entirely ignored. Theoretically, the boat sank.
The premier at the time was so embarrassed that he destroyed all records of the Queen of Richmond, brainwashed the citizens with propaganda about the C class, and destroyed the hull days later. People have never before heard this story of the eight sister.
True Story. maybe.

Now you're probably wondering "are you done yet Michael?"
yes. yes I am.

Yes, Michael, you are right on. The Q of Richmond is indeed 'home' at Deas.

Ah, so there was eight. I guess this is one mystery that can't be solved unless we had the files.

Only "half" of this story has been told -- the Queen of Richmond, upon her sinking, did not fully submerge. Not having easy access to demolitions explosives or certified underwater welders to "hide" the remaining superstructure below water level, the Evil Empire of the day actually RAISED the area of Woodwards Landing!! This was accomplished, as most lifelong Richmondites know, by adjusting the "piles" upon which all of Richmond is built (I am, of course, referring to the clothes-line posts, and the older style wooden telephone poles! ) [To those of you not native to Richmond, it may come as a surprise to you to find out that Richmond is actually a "free-floating" island, not attached to any firm ground -- henceforth the common concern about "liquifaction" during any kind of significant seismic event. The more surprising thing, is that the clothes-line poles and telephone poles are indeed the pilings that "hold" Richmond in place!] When the Queen of Richmond partially sank, the Evil Empire engaged ALL available pile driving units from Hope to Whistler to converge on Woodwards Landing and IMMEDIATELY raise the area by the 4-5 feet required to completely submerge and hide the sunken Queen of Richmond. It is not insignificant that there was repair work needed on the Massey Tunnel in the following week due to some "mysterious" newly formed cracks .......

[To those of you not native to Richmond, it may come as a surprise to you to find out that Richmond is actually a "free-floating" island, not attached to any firm ground - It also should be mentioned here that Richmond is actually below sea level, making a major seismic even more of a threat to Richmond. - henceforth the common concern about "liquifaction" during any kind of significant seismic event. The more surprising thing, is that the clothes-line poles and telephone poles are indeed the pilings that "hold" Richmond in place!] From my source with YVR (Vancouver International Airport): Liquifaction is no longer considered as significant of a threat from a significant seismic event in the area.
