Unfortunately, my camera doesn't record sound, so you'll just have to take my word on the "sounds" part! Yesterday, I was conveniently downtown (for reasons I'll explain in a minute). I went around Stanley Park around 8:30 AM to see if the Queen of Alberni had left yet. She hadn't, and wasn't looking like she was going anywhere for at least a little while. I had to get back to my "business" of the day. Around lunch time, I had another excuse to go for a quick spin around Stanley Park and I was happy to see the Queen of Alberni being towed out into the harbour. So I went up to Prospect Point and watched her sail under the bridge and out into English Bay. Just as she sailed under the bridge she sounded her horn for 7-10 seconds - beautiful! Then I went back to St. Paul's Hospital where my wife was patiently waiting... and 3 hours later Victoria Grace Hammersmark was born! A cute little girl with a "beautiful" voice;) For those interested in such things.. she was 9lbs 3oz. Our first daughter Bethany was born just hours before the Queen of Oak Bay docked at Sewells Marina (June 30th 2005). Fortunately, the birth of our second child didn't cause any problems;) And for all you guys who like ferries much better than babies, here's a 800px wide profile shot of the new Queen of Alberni:

Thank you for the pics John and congrats on the birth of a beautiful little girl. I expect that you and your wife now have your hands full and will have less time available for keeping an eye and your camera on the water.

Congratulations to you and your wife on your second daughter. At 9 lbs 3, she'll have the lungpower to let you know when it's feeding time.

Congratulations to you and your wife on your second daughter. At 9 lbs 3, she'll have the lungpower to let you know when it's feeding time. ... maybe even louder than Alberni's horn. Able to sound longer too without running out of air. I don't think those horns on Alberni have lungs! Adding my congrats on your special arrival! 10 fingers, 10 toes, pink and noisy! A perfect score!! Thanks for sneaking away to get some pics, and I am sure that BCFS is glad that this birth went un-eventfully for the fleet.

Congratulations for sneaking a BC Ferry name into your new daughter's name. Well done.
Maybe she's destined to have a meeting with a Russian named Sergey, some day ?

Congratulations on the birth of your new daughter, John.
She's a real sweetheart. Give her and her sister a hug from all of us on forum..... that should keep you busy for quite awhile.

Awesome!
What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday, or the return of a BC ferry to service.
You must either have a very understanding wife and family, or you keep them well paid off, ha-ha.
She looks lovely... congratulations, you must be proud, but... to fulfill your fatherly duties, when is her first ferry ride going to be.
Cheers.

My Dad used to help build the earlier ferries. So every time we were on a ferry, we got a guided tour in all the public areas of every part he had made.
