Hi everybody im new, excuse me if this is horrible but I was wondering with the exception of north coast, what your favourite, most enjoyable or most peaceful ferry ride is. Please elaborate.

Of the routes I've done so far, definitely the Saltery Bay run.
The isolation of the route and the scenery makes it so much more laid back than the busier routes.
Only downside is when they run the Tsawwassen at full bore... she's too fast for that route, you need to have a slow ship so you can enjoy the scenery.

Try that route in winter when the slower Queen of Chilliwack does that route. It's especially nice when there are snow capped mountains in the distance

yes the saltery bay - earls cove is one of my favs as well, recently rode the quadra-cortes route and that was very nice and laid back, saw some porpoises that day, the tenaka is a neat little ferry. I havent rode the northern routes yet, maybe this fall, but from what ive heard there spectacular.

Hi, nucksrule, thanks for asking. My favorite is and always has been Route 9 in the form of the 'milk run' between Tsawwassen and Long Harbour on Salt Spring Island by way of all the Gulf Island ports other than Fulford and Saturna.

I'd have to agree with the three already mentioned. My other three would probably be the Mill Bay route (a peaceful slow little shortcut from the busy dangerous highway) and Tsawwassen - Duke Point at night:) I love standing outside (especially on the Alberni) and watching the sunset and islands to the west, the lights of the city and airport passing to the east, and the stars up above.
For some reason I like the Powell River - Comox route too. Maybe because it's always been so empty when I've been on it. It sorta conveys a little of the BC Ferries of the past... it's always an older ship, has the old cafeteria menu, has the single car deck, doesn't seem as rushed as the major routes. Anyone else feel the same way?

The Comox-PR Run always sees the originals... for example the Sidney, now the Burnaby and the Tsawwassen when the Burnaby is away on refits. I guess that makes that route pretty special.
Another one of my favourites would be the Hornby Island run. It is pretty short, but the route it takes is awesome.

My favourite route would be the one I've been on the most; route 2 (Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay). Both Departure Bay proper Howe Sound have small islets marking their entrances--Jesse Island and Passage Island respectively. Also route 2 crosses the most open waters in the Strait of Georgia. And you can actually see the big city of Vancouver on the approach to Horseshoe Bay, not to mention the breathtaking mountain peaks lining Howe Sound.

This picture with the tanker truck reminds me of one of my favourite rides: About 15-20 years ago the Vesuvius-Crofton route - I assume the Vesuvius or Saltspring Queen. In a pickup truck we were first on the ferry. Looking over the hood you could not see the deck, thus the sensation was that you were driving on water. Looks like the tanker truck above has that happening too.

I love the HSB-Langdale run in the winter; on a sunny day the snow on the coast mountains is fabulous...

I love the HSB-Langdale run in the winter; on a sunny day the snow on the coast mountains is fabulous... I had a hockey game on the coast in winter and got some beautiful pics of the mountains and the ferry, I would post them but I can't download them from my phone to the computer
