So with all of the C's having their mid-lifes done, what is the maintenance cycle going to be like for this winter? Is the Esquimalt still going to do MD sailings on Route 2, or will the Coq?

The 'Esquimalt will be taking on the role of the Queen of New Westminster for the majority of the winter, while she goes in for the B-Class upgrade. This means the 'Coquitlam will indeed be doing MDs, and replacements during refits, breakdowns, etc..on Routes 2, 3, and 30, just like she used to before all of the C-Class winter MLUs.

MD? Multi-deck? Mid-deck? I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that abbrev. in that context.

Sorry about that.
MDs = Manager Discretion sailings.
Also, it looks like the Queen of Coquitlam has quietly left Departure Bay for Annual Refit. She would have gone to Deas I'd assume. Or maybe even the WMG drydock, as I'm sure it's nearly time for her to sit high and dry for a bit.

What does this B-Class upgrade that will be happening to the New West entail?

As far as I'm aware, she's being "Coastalized." She's getting her new interior so she can be run on route 1.

I heard a buffet from the rumours going around.... something like the Queen of Nanaimo. interior upgrades like the nanaimo, probably a change in lifesaving equipment to chutes like the nanaimo. you heard a buffet...something like the nanaimo, the nanaimo has no buffet, just a cafeteria and newsstand.

Looking through the RBI I could not find the Queen of Coquitlam listed anywhere, However normally (pre-midlife) she would be gone for her annual refitt untill late September then replace the Queen of Cowichan out of Departure Bay. Mid to late October she would normally then replace the Alberni untill near the end of November when she would replace the New West. But this year will no doubt be differnt, I still expect her to replace the Cowichan as she is due for her annual at the end of the month, after that who knows.

She's also getting extensive steel and plumbing work done to get her in shape for another 10 years of service.
RE the coquitlam:
The following is pasted from Fleet dispositions and movements from BCF
Queen of Coquitlam Vancouver DD Comp.Ops Sep 4/07 @ 1530. Depart Departure Bay Sep 5/07 @ 1100 for Vancouver Dry Dock (via Horseshoe Bay) eta 1400.
In other words, she's at Vancouver drydock.

QoV is in Duke Point...this is either maintenance swap or a breakdown. time will tell. Both QoA and QoNW will be in Tsawwassen tonight. --------- whoops there's another sailing from each terminal yet...better swap the QoA and QofV...so i guess it's back to normal...

QoV is in Duke Point...this is either maintenance swap or a breakdown. time will tell. Both QoA and QoNW will be in Tsawwassen tonight. The schedule shows Queen of Vancouver leaving Duke Point at 1045pm tonight, and Alberni coming the other way from Tsawwassen. So that means that Q-Van is replacing the New Westminster, and she replaced the 8:15 sailing from Tsawwassen too. The New Westminster was 30 minutes behind schedule for most of the day, re a "mechanical problem with vessel". I guess they decided to pull the plug after her 5:45pm trip from Duke Point. Good thing that the Q-Vancouver was available at Tsawwassen (those extra V's come in handy).

They sure aren't treating the Vancouver like an old lady either! She made it to Duke Point from Tsawwassen in 2 hours and 15 mins! Keep in mind, that was with the turnaround at both terminals as well. Normally it takes a V-Class about 2 hours and 30 minutes going from Duke Point to Tsawwassen.

Keep in mind, that was with the turnaround at both terminals as well. Normally it takes a V-Class about 2 hours and 30 minutes going from Duke Point to Tsawwassen. This is testament to the venerable ' Vancouver's capability even today. She only took 23 minutes, according to the departures+arrivals page, between arrival at and departure from Duke Point Terminal, leaving only 11 minutes behind the ' New Westminster's scheduled departure time, all of this after getting only a 3 minute head-start on the ' New Westminster's scheduled 8:15pm departure from Tsawwassen Terminal. For being built in 1962 and after having been stretched, lifted and re-engined, times like this places her as a living legend in my books.

Good thing that the Q-Vancouver was available at Tsawwassen (those extra V's come in handy). Hmmm ... I think I've been hammering away at this point for a month and a half or so now ... Something, I don't know what, about keeping a V or two (would that make them a 'W' ) around as spares.... Can't quite put my finger on what I was saying though

No need to worry, Hardy. I was talking to a couple of my friends who work for BC Ferries and they both indicated that the Saanich and Vancouver will be kept as spares, for the time being. They both also said that most of the ships in the fleet will need to be replaced, sooner or later. It is all just a question of time.
There was a time when all the boats(except for the Alberni) on The Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen run had a cafeteria on the main passenger deck and a restaurant(waiters who served you) The restaurant was turned into a buffet on some of the ships.

I got my hands on the Winter schedual brochure yesturday and it does not show the modified schedual on the M.I.E for the Queen of Esquimalt. It is going to be interesting to see what actualy transpires this season.
I love the front cover of the schedual!

I love the front cover of the schedual! Funny, I can't say I agree. I think it is just a repeat of the summer schedule's front cover. Ooo, silhouettes rather than full light. With BC Ferries' fleet diversity and the geography the ships go through, you'd think there would be a more unique photo out there somewhere. just my humble opinion.

So where is the Coquitlam while there are sailing waits at Langdale and Departure Bay?
