Well, seeming nobody posts any polls anymore...I thought I might as well break the ice, and get away from some of these speculation and political background threads, which can be quite tiresome after a while - personal opinion. Also, Harry seems to have lost interest in this forum, so we've gone from seening a new Poll everyday to no polls at all, aside from the Monthly Forum Banner Images.
Anyways, this is a list of ships which are slated to be on the chopping block within the next 15 years or so. Tell us why you would pick that ship as well.
Ok, so there's no point to this poll, as I know some of you are probably itching to point out right off the bat. So I guess my intent of this would be aimed more towards finding out which of the old Ferries that are currently still in service are the most valuable.

Mill Bay got my vote. She's a ship with character and extremely faithful service on the Brentwood-Mill Bay run. I think she is really under-appreciated too, both by ferry nerds and the general public.
I'll miss the Tachek too, just because it seems like nothing would ever bring her down, but unfortunately I can only vote once!!

Love em all but the Chilliwack maybe an exception. I have loved the Spaulding's and the V's just cause of their classic charm. The old ones have some charm unlike the new ones. They all remind me of the all 737 fleet of Southwest Airlines too much.

G'ah! I've just noticed a typo in the selections....Please excuse the "Queen of New Nanaimo"....I had the two Ferries names being spelt out in my mind at the same time as I wrote....

All the old Spaulding designs are classics and I'll miss them all. I really love the lines on them. The Slanted stern on the lower car deck gives these ships a cool retro look.

I voted for the 'Vancouver, after all, when it comes down to the crunch, who is there to get the job done? Case in point, last night filling in for QoNW. At one point she was stroking along at 18.2 knots!! I think that's pretty good for a 45 year old...

I voted for the Queen of Tsawwassen though.

Oh? I'm assuming you're unaware of where the Queen of New Nanaimo operates. She does a trip a long trip once a week from Tsawwassen to Bear Cove on Wednesday Nights. I just happened to catch a picture of her leaving Tsawwassen a couple of months ago.

I just happened to catch a picture of her leaving Tsawwassen a couple of months ago. Here she is departing Tsawwassen on that once per week sailing. Like the original format of the North Island Princess she contains a total of 4 staterooms. - By the way I voted for the venerable, original sister, Coho design inspired, Spaulding classic Tsawwassen.

The good thing about this forum is it's big enough, that when I come upon an area that doesn't really interest me, I find it easy enough just to go elsewhere, and let those who are interested carry on.

Great photos guys of the QoNN! Do any of you have similar high quality pics of the QoR (my favourite fictional ship)?

You know, there's been so many mentions of the Queen of Richmond on this forum, wouldn't it be great if 'ferrynutseattle' could favour us with one of his wonderful diagrams to give those who never saw her a feel for this legendary vessel?
I understand he's currently working on a picture of Alaska State Ferries' only double ender, the long retired Ernest Gruening. Very much looking forward to that.

Sensing a possible joke here, I did some research. Ernie was an Alaska Governor, so that seems to fit; but not in the ironic way that I was expecting. "Double Ender" might be the clue, but I didn't see any obvious satirical opportunities for that when I was reading about Mr. Gruening. I'll await the explanation...........

Do any of you have similar high quality pics of the QoR (my favourite fictional ship)? Funny you had mentioned it, but I was ACTUALLY able to find a good picture of the former Queen of Richmond, before she was run up along the beach at Alang, India. This was probably on her last day of spontanious service, and was in a slightly adjusted Expo scheme. What I like is how the coat of arms was right up at the bow, which reminds me of the Queens of Sidney and Tsawwassen. The major difference between the Queen of Richmond and her half sisters, was the fact that she had no car deck windows, a near proper bow (the rubbing strake was there so that it could dock 'bow-to' at Deas, in order for the refit crews to be able to paint the bow), and no Dogwood logo on the funnel. She had no Dogwood Logo on the funnel because she was never considered an actual BC Ferry, because she never served full time on any route due to her bow, and ended up spending most of her days tucked away at Deas. Not bad for using the regular "paint" program, eh?

good job with the paint Chris. *Bracing for a spate of Queen of Richmond questions once again It's always fun to play with the satirically-impaired. ;D I believe that the Queen of Richmond's lack of a regularly scheduled route is mainly because of her frequent mechanical breakdowns, and her lack of any amenities necessary for ferry travelers. She was affectionately known to her crew as the " Lulu Lemon" (Bannermann, page 555).

I believe that the Queen of Richmond's lack of a regularly scheduled route is mainly because of her frequent mechanical breakdowns, and her lack of any amenities necessary for ferry travelers. She was affectionately known to her crew as the " Lulu Lemon" (Bannermann, page 555). Lulu Island was named after a lady named Lulu Sweet, at the suggestion of one W. H. Ladner, in 1879. During that time period, Lulu, who is listed variously as an "actress" or "entertainer" by various sources, had pitched a tent in the area for the purpose of entertaining the public. Since this is a family forum, I will only say that her specialty was in the entertaining of men. Usually one at a time. I'm certain that this is of some significance. The only question here is whether anyone cares. And if anyone asks, I'm partial to the Queen of Saanich. Heck, my laptop's network name is Saanich. I suppose to get any respect, a boat has to be in imminent danger of immediate retirement, or have been one of the first two ferries to ply the waters of BC under the Dogwood banner, or something like that. But all through this being all-but-ignored, she does her job each and every day with distinction. A workhorse of the fleet. So there.

Oh my Lulu Island blueberries just took on a whole new meaning. Never knew where the name came from and now I do. Lulu must have set her tent up on the empty car deck of the Richmond so she can keep her "ahem" services on the move and away from the police. Splains a lot.
