Schedule Conflict FriFall07/Spring08-Galiano9pm hr

I've found a conflict in today's Gulf Islands Schedule during the 9pm hour @galiano(Sturdies Bay). Gonna watch Vessel tracking tonight - wait, 4th quarter of tonight's football game. Well hopefully someone will post if something happens.

I read tonight's schedule as saying:
--->Mayne Queen in Galiano from 9:10-9:50 isn't 40 minutes a long time for the Mayne Queen to be in Sturdies Bay
--->Queen of Nanaimo in Galiano from 9:20-9:30

The details page for the Mayne Queen 3:35 sailing out of Swartz says "Delayed". This should work out -->looks someone has picked up on this...

LOL Another tie up here at 5:00 hour

at 5:06 QoN (who left TSW 9 minutes late) is hanging around at the mouth of Active pass waiting for the Mayne (also late 20-30 minutes) to leave Sturdies. LOL now the QoN is pointing back to TSW...going thata way

I think they should have the same thing that they have for the Northern routes on the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay and Gulf Island routes. or something similar

There's another schedule idiocy somewhere too, I think it's on the Alliford Bay run. They have one sailing leaving 5 minutes before it can even arrive from the previous sailing. Oh, and there's also some random Horseshoe Bay - Departure Bay sailing that never returns so assume it's left to an MD or else it dead heads to Langdale?

Vessel tracking captures from last Friday(Sept7/07).

That day(a Fri-triangle in the schedule), the Mayne Queen and Queen of Nanaimo were both running 20-30 minutes behind Schedule due to "Traffic delays."

There was a tie up with the early evening rendezvous at Galiano:
-the Mayne was scheduled to be in the Sturdies Bay berth 4:40-4:50
-the Nanaimo was scheduled in 5:00-5:10



@5:06 the Mayne was in at Sturdies Bay. Meanwhile the Nanaimo is in a holding pattern at the NE mouth of Active Pass trying to stay out of the way of the Saanich blasting through. Am I the only one who thinks this is a BAAAAAAAD idea ?

The late night traffic tie up at Galiano:

-Mayne Queen scheduled to be in Sturdies 9:10-9:50
-Queen of Nanaimo to be in Sturdies 9:20-9:30

@9:36 the Mayne Queen arrives at Sturdies Bay but has to hold since the Queen of Nanaimo is in.



@9:48 Both the Mayne and Nanaimo are showing as being in port It looks like "" actually represents a stopped vessel - not necessarily in port. I have seen the Queen of Chilliwack "In Port" out in the middle of the sound north of VanIsle - probably whale watching. It also looks like the actual Vessel location is the upper left corner of .



After arriving in the area at ~9:36, the Mayne Queen is unable to hit port until 10:06.



I will itemize issues that come to mind later.

The Sturdies Bay traffic jam is a common occurrence during summer weekday mornings.

The 10:15am Q-Nanaimo Sailing from Tsawwassen to Galiano is scheduled to arrive say 30 minutes before the Mayne/Cumberland arrives at Galiano from Swartz.

More often than not, the Q-Nanaimo is late departing from Tsawwassen (because of the usual delays in loading traffic for multiple ports), and so the Q-Nanaimo is still in the Sturdies Bay berth when the Mayne/Cumberland arrives at Galiano.

This happened to me during July, when I was on the Mayne Queen, and we waited off of the entrance to Active Pass for approx 10 minutes, until Nanaimo finished loading and left.

Conclusion: this traffic jam and berth queuing seems to be a regular and accepted occurrence with BC Ferries on these routes.

As quite a fan of the Routes 9/5/1 circle - Tsawwassen and return by way of an SGI transfer at Mayne and the main Route 1 on the way back from Swartz Bay for myself - I can attest to the standard conflict almost scheduled for at Sturdies Bay, Galiano Island. The weekday morning conflict, the one I've seen almost exclusively, seems to have been long ago accepted as, with the Queen of Nanaimo late so often and Route 5 (Swartz Bay - Southern Gulf Islands) having their shift change and scheduled layover at Swartz Bay immediately following this last morning sailing, it all seems to work in the end.
