I’ve been noticing that the funnel lighting that illuminates the logos on many of the major vessels has been out for some time now. (Most noticeable to me are the ships on rte 2 & 30)
I wonder if this is just bulbs that have blown and have never been replaced or something else I’m not aware of.
Maybe its one of those non-critical maintenance items that doesn’t show up on a checklist and as a result never gets maintained..
Has anyone else noticed this on any other major or minor vessels?

I believe the lighting you're talking about was there when the Dogwood was still the logo, I believe it would light up the Dogwood so a nearby vessel could identify if it was a Dogwood Vessel they were passing, or some other giant ship. When the Wave Came in those lights were mainly useless. But that's just my theory

Hey, I can recognize the wave graphic from afar just as much as ol' Dogwood. When the wave was introduced, I started calling BC Ferries the "White Wave Fleet".

I can't vouch for the BCF fleet, but on the WSF side of the coin, the Jumbo Mark IIs (and a couple of other boats) were equipped with 'stack lighting to illuminate the DOT "Flying T" in the 1990s. Once the "T" was removed, there was little reason to keep them illuminated. Not to mention the backscatter from the lights was apparently hell on the night-vis of the bridge team...

Little reason other than notifying other vessels in the area that there is a passenger-carrying vessel present, a rare sight these days granted, but having fewer precious-cargo carrying vessels carrying passengers these days in our waters with the most security than other such vessels as with those with the most volitile threats to this cargo and still categorized with the same title as 'precious cargo', or maybe as "dangerous" cargo in the most giving of categoizations - I hope that atleast someone is reminded of Halifax early this century -- I know that I would not be alive today if it weren't for the fact that my Grandmother was a baby resting comfortably on the side of a hill opposite to the famous blast.

The lights on the funnels are just for looks on these vessels. The spirits still have them. The lights on the masts are the ones for navigation purposes

I'll have to keep a closer look, but I see from Mr. Horn's funnel picture that the Esquimalt's lights are now working. And those I know were out a few months back.
As for the C class ships I think they are still dark.
Can anyone confirm?

Y'mean the huge mass of a minimum of three well-illuminated decks shining through windows and ports wouldn't clue someone in?

The funnel is illuminated by a simple flip of a light switch on the bridge...
