Kevin was at the scene of the Queen of Surrey going out for her sea trials today. Finally, recent pictures of a Ferry going under the Lions Gate bridge!! It's pretty funny they were still doing last minute touch up jobs on the paint, as there is a guy in a cherry picker working around the bow windows. Also, these pictures prove that people can walk out on the MEC boxes, like on Oak Bay. Have a look! www.pbase.com/kstapleton/q_of_surrey

Looks like they copied what they did on the Oak Bay ... letting you walk out over the escape chute stations. That's good!

Would be nice if they could Modify the Coquitlam and Cowichan's so you could walk over them

Those are nice photos! I wish someone on this board would be able to tell us when a ferry is going for sea trials from North Vancouver!! I'd love to watch the ferry come in or go out under the Lions Gate Bridge. The view from there is awesome. I've watched some cruise ships sail right under my feet before. They don't have too much clearance!

I could easily do that, considering I live in North Vancouver, and a 15 minute drive from the Waterfront.

I was on the Esquimalt tonight with Graham and Scott at Departure Bay and we heard the Surrey is arriving at Departure Bay in the next day or so!

Interesting news! I wonder how long she will be there for. Maybe she will run on route 2! But I doubt it as she's probably just going there to get stocked up, and then she's off to Langdale.

a colleague's spouse is an Officer on the Cowichan. He was working sea-trials on the Surrey today, out of Dep Bay.
Apparantly there were "lots of changes" made to the ship, re docking equipment, or something like that......he didn't sound too happy.

Interesting. Hopefully with whatever operational changes were made, all of the crew gets the full run through with how to use it! Apparently she stopped by Horseshoe Bay today at 12:30 to pick up some trades people, and continued on with the trials, and finally ending up at Departure Bay, probably not long before we noticed her being in Departure Bay. ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/bcferriesclub/message/6706

I was on the 11:20 aboard the Queen of Coquitlam, I'm sad I missed her! Any idea what kind of changes could be made that would make crew unhappy. I'm trying to think of docking equipment that could change? Most of it is electronics, is it not? The terminal does the rest of the work, you know, with the ramp

The only thing I can see being different, is the communication devices, like the buzzers and stuff. Who knows, maybe they changed how the bow doors open... I guess we'll find out when we go for a trip on her.

I got some clarification re Surrey changes.
Apparantly, they couldn't fit into one of the berths at Dep Bay.
I have no idea why.
