DELTA/CKNW(AM980) - The BC Ferry Queen of Powell River had a faulty fire suppression system for over a year until it was discovered in a routine inspection. Transport Canada documents say that in December, 2004 water was found in the CO2 system from hydro testing more than a year before. The documents say the system would not have worked properly if it had been needed. BC Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall says changes were made after the discovery, requiring the use of inert gas to test the system. BC Ferries stepped up testing on all 35 of its vessels after a partial CO2 system failure on the Queen of Surrey during an engine room fire three years ago.
A Transportation Safety Board report on that fire was critical of both BC Ferries and Transport Canada for its inspection process.

Queen of Powell River?? I think you mean Powell River Queen, lol!! If only it was called Queen of Powell River. I'd say that is what a new Powell River-Comox Ferry Should Be Called or maybe Spirit of Powell River and maybe even something different like Pearl of the Sunshine Coast<--(This is where I got the Phrase. "Powell River, The Pearl of the Sunshine Coast")
