Well, if you're planning on going to the Island tonight, you'll have to take Route 30, as it almost looks like Route 1 will be all booked up shortly.
Posted November 10, 2006
Sailings from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay are full for the remainder of evening Friday, November 10.
Customers without reservations are being advised to consider Tsawwassen - Duke Point as an alternate route to Vancouver Island this evening

What is "Life on the Coast?" waiting in ferry line-ups just to find out your trip gets extended longer and BC Ferries crams everyone onto late saillings and does not care about serving those who want to go on the route they want. However, on HSB to DPB, the Cowichan is not loaded up yet and the Sannich is sitting at SWB. What lovely timing eh?

OK so let's get this straight we have had weather delays, refit season, and a long weekend and you want 100% ontime performance with extra ships. a couple of sailings cancelled this morning already gives you a back up at the terminals. there are ships in refit, when do you want this to happen. i guess you don't around a long weekend but sometimes this is the only time you can get into the drydocks. remember there are other customers for the drydocks other than bc ferries

The Cowichan is sitting in Berth 1 at Departure Bay right now. Tomorrow, there will be 3 C's running on Route 2. Doesn't really make much sense to me......

kyle I did not specifically mention on time performance nor did I mention it at all period. My prime repetitive message was that BCFS is not using all of its ships when it can and should.

So then which V was sitting at berth 3 SWB this afternoon? BCFS's "vessel tracking" page lists the Q-Esquimalt as sitting at Swartz Bay. That makes sense, as she's the 3rd vessel on this route, currently.

Hey Kyle, a poor choice of words on my part.
I didn't mean "sitting" as in doing-nothing-lazily....
I simply meant that she is in Swartz right now.
I agree with you, that the ferries can't always meet every traffic demand.....especially at this time of year with refit season.
--------------
Another point: Does the timing of crew/officer vacations impact the ability to quickly muster a MD crew? I assume that BCFS has a policy to discourage too much vacation usage in summer, because that's the peak demand time. So do a lot of the workers do offseason vacations to somewhere warm/dry during times like now ??
