Temporary Replacement Vessel to Arrive Soon
Posted November 10, 2006
The 50-vehicle MV Quinitsa will soon be undergoing a scheduled mid-life upgrade. This extensive, detailed refit will prepare the ship for 20 more years of safe and reliable service.
The start date for this refit has yet to be finalized but is expected to be between November 14th and November 30th. We will endeavour to notify all customers as soon as the refit dates are set including when the temporary schedule changes will come into effect. Please check our web site at www.bcferries.com or call
1 888 BC FERRY (1 888 223 3779) for updates.
The Quinitsa is expected to return approximately mid-March 2007, at which time customers will experience a freshly re-painted and improved ship, fitted with new engines, electronics, life jackets, evacuation and propulsion systems. In addition to fully revamped washroom facilities, upgraded seating, deck coating, flooring, bulkheads and extensive steel work will enhance both crew and passenger areas.
As the Kahloke is smaller than the Quinitsa and cannot carry the same amount of traffic, to provide timely service while the regular vessel is away, a temporary schedule developed to move as much traffic as possible, will be in place until the Quinitsa returns. (The temporary schedule appears at the end of this notice).
In order to maintain this tight schedule and allow time for extra sailings if required, it is very important that the vessel sail on time, so any traffic arriving after the commencement of the clearance procedure (gate closing) will be on the next sailing. To ensure ticketing, passengers are advised to be at the ticket booth a minimum of 5 minutes ahead of time.
To assist in traffic management at Buckley Bay during the refit period, the sorting of Hornby traffic to Lane 1 will not occur while the Quinitsa is away.
In order to reduce traffic volume, customers are strongly encouraged to car pool or park at Buckley Bay and travel as foot passengers.
BC Ferries thanks customers for your patience during this extended refit period.
