I wish the Tachek was doing a trip to Salt Spring on the same schedule that the Bowen Queen was going to do so I could get my reservation on the Bowen Queen back.

misterA called it; BC Ferries must have been paying attention. Shows how much I know.
The little guys are getting their 'day in the sun', first the Nimpkish on the central coast, now the Tachek showing up at Tsawwassen. That would be kind of a fun excursion.

Anyone know what the Tachek will be doing at Tsawwassen and Galiano Island and all other Gulf Islands. The Queen of Nanaimo docks Bow to at all the terminals except Long Harbour. will the Tachek only dock bow or what? P.S. Karl maybe you should change your trip on the Alberni to Tachek so you could say that you have been on every BC Ferries vessel

I want to get on the Tachek and that route would be cool but it will be PACKED I would assume so I might as well wait till she is on a less busy gulf island route. It is odd though cause she will be at Mayne Island around 7:40pm Sat but there is no sailing from Mayne Island back to Tsawwassen except from Galiano so that means she will be sailing empty from Mayne to Galiano. If my trip goes as planned Saturday I will take the 7pm from TSA and hopefully see her on her way to Galiano! I was originally just going to drive to Duke Point and do the Alberni but now the Tachek will be at TSA I will do the longer route 1 and 30 trip. You know your a ferry geek when you will do something like that! loL!

2 things:
1) Maybe I'm being too idealistic here, but for me, I thought about taking Tachek on Saturday, for the fun of it. But when you consider that the Tachek's purpose in sailing this weekend is get people to the gulf islands for their trips, it seems "unfair" for someone to ride the ship, just for the fun of it.
It's really rare that this would be an issue, where a "fan" displaces people with a genuine need for travel to a destination.
What do all the other's think? I'm not on a moral crusade here, or criticizing anyone...I just think it's an interesting issue to ponder. The only choice that I can make is for me.
------------------------
2) re Saturday's Alberni trip. I'm debating whether to take the 10:15am from Duke Point (and then return with the gang on the 12:45pm....or to take the 3:15pm with the gang.
But then, "the gang" is likely to just be Karl, so I'll look out for him, no matter which sailing I'm on.

anyone remember the last time the Tachek even operated to the Southern Gulf Islands. I saw her in the early 1990's, operating out of Swartz Bay...much like Mayne Queen does now.

I just remembered now. In 2005 on the Labour Day long weekend wasn't the Tachek doing the role of what the Queen of Esquimalt does in the Fall/Winter/Spring only for Swartz Bay-Gulf Islands when the Queen of Cumberland was have huge RAD problems

Given that there will probably never be another opportunity ro ride such a small ferry across the Strait, I was all ready to go out to Tsawwassen on Saturday at 11:30 or so and see if I could get aboard the Tachek, with the back up plan of taking the (ugh) 'Alberni if it was full.
And then Mr Horn had to go and complicate things with ethics. Now I don't know. Drat. Life is a lot less complicated when you just think of yourself. I'm still tempted. Those summer cottage people just clog up the islands anyway...

Indulge your "Coastal Neil" and go for the Tachek.
If it's already sold out by the time you get there, then that must have meant that others needed it more than you did.

I am probably gonna do route 1 and 30 and go with everyone on the 12:45pm from TSA although everyone means like probably only 2 other people who will show up. I am only doing the route 1 and 30 combo to see the Tachek at TSA. Otherwise I would probably just drive to Duke which I had decided today I would do until I found out the Tachek was gonna be on route 9a. It will be a rare sight to see at TSA!

I'll want to see Tachek too. So I'll probably take the 7:45 am New West from Duke Point, and then stay over at Tsawwassen for the 2.5 hours gawking at the Tachek etc, and then back to Duke on the 12:45pm Alberni. So Karl, I'll look for you by the Tachek at Tsawwassen, sometime late Saturday morning....

I'd advise as many of you as possible who are open to the idea of these kinds of sailings, smaller vessel on a semi-major route and other rare things that you don't see too much anymore, to show our numbers and let them know what we want I know I will be. Even if you're not any kind of fan, if you're able to walk on and make travel connections at the other side, it's surprisingly cheap. - On another note, did I miss it being mentioned already, or did any of you notice the late night sailing on July 1st between Long Harbour and Tsawwassen by way of Lyall Harbour, Saturna Island? I wonder who (what vessel) might be going to Saturna as neither Route 9 or Route 9a serve the island with any regularity. www.tinyurl.com/3bpgwj

Besides, in the unlikely event that you did, the only travel plans you'd be spoiling would be those of some pretentious Yaletown land speculator checking out some new piece of ocean view property they'll only visit twice a year, with the only outcome of the transaction being to further jack up land prices on the islands, making them inaccessable for anyone earning less than a six figure income. Invoke your inner 'Fish Cheer' and ride the Tachek. I know I sure will be. Fenk, spelling it out

I'm still reviewing what I want to do.
The Saturday 2:30 pm trip from Tsawwassen to Galiano, and back to Tsawwassen is something that I just might do.
If it's already sold-out, then so be it. But if there's excess capacity, then I might just go for it....on the Saturday afternoon.
It sounds like that's where the ferry-enthusiast crowd will be.
The Tachek returns to Tsawwassen at 5:10pm on Saturday...which gives me enough time to get the 5:45pm Alberni back from Tsawwassen to Duke Point.
But it all depends if Tachek's sold out, or not.
And I'm prepared for the funny-look from the ferry-employee at Sturdies Bay, as I walk off, turnaround, and walk back on. ;D I'm used to being "misunderstood"

I am also now thinking about doing the roundtrip to Galiano as the Tachek is the one and only ferry I have not yet been on. lol! If we can get tickets for the Tachek I say we do it. If not we will do the Alberni but we would have to meet at TSA around noon and try to get tickets cause if we cant I will take the 1245pm Duke so we dont want to miss the Duke Point sailing if we cant get the Tachek. It is early but if you want to ride the Tachek you will have to be there early as alot of people who were gonna take the Bowen Queen could be trying to get on too. Should be cool either way!

www.bcferries.com/schedules/notices/notices_tsa.htmlI believe it will be the Bowen Queen going from Long Harbour to Tsawwassen with a stop at Saturna, however I could be mistaken.

Looks like Tachek will continue serving 9a for at least one more day, according to the current schedules posted at bcferries.ca. Never did get the Bowen Queen over on the 30th -- that would have been a FIRST, I think -- 3 separate boats serving 9/9a in a single day!!
That being said ..... has anyone considered (or is it even practical?) to use the Esquimalt to take up the slack in traffic? I know that she is a way bigger boat than is required, but one round trip sailing should suffice to clear all of the waiting traffic up ....
Again, only my 1.5 cents worth.
