Well actually you can see trains coming in either direction for at least a kilometer on that crossing. So? It's not even public property like a road, so you can't you use the argument "people jay walk" I love seeing the different perceptions of the different sides of debates like this one. Although I must admit that I cannot help but keep coming back to the same question of why a resident of his/her own community cannot cross a line of steel that has been sliced through it?

Don't mess with the CN cops! I tried crossing a double track on a once public trail and they stopped me just for that. 'Put a bloody chain link fence up since then. The Chevy Blazer you see going up and down that road is the Utilityman's truck. The Utilityman drives conductors to the head end of their train after the conductor finished putting his train together, hooking up and testing the SBU. Doug, all public crossings at grade have some sort of warning devices. Trails used by the public that cross the railroad are not necessarily considered public crossings at grade. Did this trail have warning devices where it crosses the tracks? If not, then it is not a public crossing, you shouldn't be crossing the tracks there and the CN cops can get you for tresspassing.

Although I must admit that I cannot help but keep coming back to the same question of why a resident of his/her own community cannot cross a line of steel that has been sliced through it?I'll tell you why the railroad doesn't want you crossing at other than public crossings. 1) Unlike roads, railroads are PRIVATE Property and it is considered TRESSPASSING when you cross at any other place besides a public crossing. 2) If someone hurts themselves while on railroad property, they can turn around and sue the railroad. Please stay off the tracks, it's stress that us railroaders don't need. Imagine coming around the corner and seeing someone standing between the rails and knowing you can't stop in time, knowing you're about to hit this person and there is nothing you can do. Knowing this person has a family they'll never see again.

I saw the Garibaldi today from the bridge for the first time. She is just sitting there doing nothing. The Kuper looks really nice though.
