its all up to the powell river queen I hear I guess that means that Point Hope Shipyard is only doing the deck replacements, then, and that Esquimalt will take care of the rest... I guess that any work going to Point Hope is better than none.

I didn't realise that the drydock was so close to Naden. One of your pictures (the final one) shows a navy ship in the dead-end of the drydock: I think that is HMCS Nanaimo, or a sister ship. Also, it looks like HMCS Protecteur, that's just outside the drydock area, tied up under a crane.

I can confirm that it is the HMCS Protecteur at the outside of the dry dock. Almost parallel to that boat is an 100 foot boat that is being built for the navy.( It looks grey in the picture and is on the other side of the crane.)

As a teenager would say to a priest, "Thanks for the confirmation".
ps: I think it's "Navy Days" at Naden this weekend (or maybe that was last weekend?)

Great pictures Karl Sorry our internet is giving us problems in drydock, so I could not answer you from there. The bottom was sand blasted to bare steel and first coat is on. The whole upper structure is to be water blasted and painted this week also.

The HMCS PROTECTEUR is in for her major overhall and is out for something like 2 years!

The HMCS PROTECTEUR is in for her major overhall and is out for something like 2 years! I think that HMCS Protecteur's refit is shorter than that, unless she's now in the final stages of a long refit, because she's due back next year sometime. I've seen something from DND that says she's back in service sometime in 2007. She's scheduled to get replaced by a new ship after 2012, but a lot can happen between now & then to change that plan. www.lookoutnewspaper.com/archive/20060918/2.shtmlThe article also says that the smaller navy ship in the drydock in Karl's photo (see his link above in this thread) is HMCS Calgary.....not HMCS Nanaimo, as I speculated earlier.

The HMCS PROTECTEUR's refit may be a little bit shorter, but I'm reasnoably confident (but by no means sure) this is the big long one. She's been out for quite sometime, in fact I believe after her last deployment she went in for the refit.

The small navy boat in the dry dock is not the Calgary either. Hubby was working on the Calgary and it has been finished and sent back over to the Navy wharfs.
The Calgary is much bigger than the boat that is in the dry dock.
Very nice pictures, Karl. Hubby was telling me about the various things in those pictures.

The boat in question is probably the new Orca Class YAG training vessels. Vicship is building 6-8 of them. That would be the first one. GM

HMCS PROTECTEUR is about to be turned back over to the Navy for those who may be curious after readying some of the previous posts.
And ORCA's aren't YAG Training Vessels, they're Training Vessels. YAGs are YAGs.
