Don't we have a National Guard like the United States? the national guard is like our armed forces reserves. they are weekend warriors as some would call them.

I don't think the Reserves could do much in response to terrorism.
I think the current strategy of covert investigation and diffusing threats via arrests is the most effective way to fight this.

The training on course is the same, but not advanced in the same level once you get home. Although, by text book definition, the training is "equal" none of us kid ourselves that the level of prepardness is anywhere near equal. The PRes is also starting to receieve different equipment than the RegF, generally do to fiscal restraints (notable example is G-Wagons for the Regs and Ford F250s (?) for the Reserves... not 100% on the truck make/model but that's close) And when you can't say "the reserves cannot respond to terrorism...." that doesn't really make any sense, at all. Anyone can respond to terrorism, the question you have to ask is how do you want them to respond. The next deployment to Afghanistan (the current one is just arriving) will be a lot of PRes members from the British Columbia Regiment in Vancouver Up the Dukes!

I think the current strategy of covert investigation and diffusing threats via arrests is the most effective way to fight this. You're probably right about that. There seems to be a lot of co-operation between intelligence agencies these days, and the "West" is no longer an easy target for terrorists.
