hmm that's cool then. But I might drive over this time so I might not go back Tsawwassen. Where are we going on Mayne Island???

That's a very good question. Perhaps we should consult a map...
we could just fly by the seat of our pants and bushwack to good ferry watching place.

I don't know if I could do the 8:00 Queen of Saanich as I will likely be taking a bus this time...which may take two hours. Leaving at 6:00 is a little early.

I'd also have to be leaving at 6 to make an 8AM sailing from Tsawassen.

You can take the 8:30 Queen of Nanaimo out of Tsawwassen if you wished.

We could always go on a Sunday as the departure from Tsawwassen to Mayne Island is 9:50am instead of 8:30am if 8:30 is too early for you guys from Vancouver??? Times going back though on Sunday arent that great as you could only take the 4:50 Bowen Queen from Mayne to Tsawwassen which just takes foot passengers only and I either have to go back at 4:20pm or wait till like 8:40pm to go back to Swartz Bay. I think Saturday is the best day!

Hey, I'm in ND, so I leave an hour before scheduled sailing time. I'll be on the 8:00am MAYBE, but if there's more on the 8:30am, then I'll just take that sailing.

So anyone coming from Vancouver on the 8am Queen of Vancouver, are gonna meet at SB or onboard the Cumberland at 10am? That is the sailing I will be on. The arrivals at Village Bay are only like 20 mins difference between the Vancouver and Victoria ferries so it's not much of a big deal. I think Saturday is the best day!

Definately cause I get back on Thursday, it would give me a day of rest and I can get to Tsawwassen for the eve. I am probably going to take the Nanny to Mayne if I can go.

A couple of ideas for you: * Helen Point is about 2 km away from the ferry terminal and should be reachable by hiking either along the shoreline from Village Bay, or trails through the forest. The area is indian reserve and the map shows no roads. Should be 1st rate ferry watching at Helen Pt. * Georgina Pt Lighthouse - 6 km distance, a bit of a long hike - you would need a car, or take your bikes. Again good viewing though maybe not as good as Helen Pt.

If it's Saturday August 26th, I'll consider attending. I'll ruminate on the idea for a bit, and see what I decide...........

It is Saturday August 26th is the date we are planning. I have been to the lighthouse on Mayne Island and it has pretty good views. I would say just as good as Bellhouse Park on Galiano. I will be driving this trip so let me know how many people are going and I will decide if I should take the smaller car or the minivan unless someone else is going to drive over too.

I will come if someone is driving. Just a question where I will be then (Saltspring or Vancouver)

I'll walk on if I can get a ride. Otherwise, I'll just convince my dad to drive his '99 Fordy Explorer around.

A couple of ideas for you: ... Such an interesting map; apparently BC ferries call at one terminal south of Sturdies Bay and Bellhouse Park, and another called Village People Terminal.

Where, at Village People Terminal? You'd have to be responsible for everything you want at your party, and everyone who's coming, so you'll have to see that your party goes ahead.

Sorry to topic-drift, but on Mayne Island, do you know if there's any kind of fitness facility near Village People Terminal........you know, like a YMCA or something?

Uh, nice try, but bad news: If you really want a workout, and it's the only one available, swim from your home in Nanaimo to Village Ba- I mean Village People Terminal instead of taking a ferry.

If it's village-people that I want to see, I could get a ride to Village Bay on a ship with some guys who are in the navy. Afterwards, we would go west, and do some cruisin'.

Okay, 'Nanaimo, time to go in now. Your mom's calling you. On another relevant note about Mayne Island and enlisted people, I remember vividly wading in the water at Bennett Bay and listening to coverage of the first moon landing. Summer of '69, to quote some guy from North Van.

I'm out for this trip. It turns out, I have to spend an extra 5 days in a misquito bitten, wasp stung, barren wasteland. Enjoy the trip, I won't ber back 'til the 27th. Which is a load of god d*** BS, because my dad told me the 22nd. Oh well.
