Who's up for a Mayne Island trip this summer? Instead of taking the short trip over, we could go over on Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay and head to Mayne via Swartz Bay-Southern Gulf Islands. And then at the end of the day return on the Nanaimo or something. We were talking about it yesterday...so who is up for it? Any dates to avoid? I am free pretty much any time except the third week (and maybe fourth) of July.

I'm going on holidays with the 'rents (parents), for the last week of July, and the first week of August. During at least one of those weeks, I may just happen to be in the Gulf Islands anyway.

I would like to come if there is a trip to Mayne Island... I am away the first two weeks of August, but if it is to take place mid to late August or this month - it should be able to attend...

I might be able to attend if it is on the third week, another trip to BC wont hurt after getting across the boarder easily.

How 'bout the 26th? Last Saturday of August, 1 week from Labour Day. Is everyone who wants to come free that day?

I'm in for Mayne. My schedule this summer is quite adjustable, so most days are good for me to go.
If no one brings a vehicle (and I couldn't blame you at those prices), there is a taxi service on the island of which I just found the buisness card for. M.I.D.A.S. Taxi is the name, and they operate much like transit in Vancouver, using a multi-zone (only 3 or 4 for the entire island) system with set fares for how many zones you'll be travelling through.

I might consider driving this time. I can be free any day if I know ahead of time so that would work.
Has anyone checked the schedules for Mayne Island on Saturday before you go and choose a day?? lol
Well I did, the Queen of Nanaimo leaves Tsawwassen at 8:30am arriving at 10:25am on Mayne Island and leaves Mayne at 5:05pm arriving at Tsawwassen at 6:25pm or the Bowen Queen leaving Mayne at 7:45pm arriving at 9:20pm.
For me coming from Swartz Bay leaving at 8:25am arriving at 10:40am or 10am arriving at 11:15am for anyone coming from the island. Going back to SB either 4:45pm or 4:55 non stop or 7:40pm arriving at 9:30pm. That's the Mayne Island schedule for Saturday's and the options you have for going Saturday!

Sorry to bring back an old and tired thread, but are we going to pull this off or what? 'Cause this thread and this trip ain't going nowhere if we don't choose a day, a sailing, and a meeting place.

I know the fourth week of August would work fine, Friday may work best for me but I am not sure at the moment. I am in Mexico during the third week so that would not work for me.

Just curious would it be easier to go via Tsawwassen or throughfare to Swartz Bay in this case? Cause I may have to go across the boarder and stay near Tsawwassen so that I do not have to beat feet across the boarder.

Well coming from Vancouver on a Saturday the Queen of Nanaimo leaves Tsawwassen at 8:30am arriving at 10:25am on Mayne Island and leaves Mayne at 5:05pm arriving at Tsawwassen at 6:25pm or the Bowen Queen leaving Mayne at 7:45pm arriving at 9:20pm or you could go from SB which means if you did a throughfare you would have have to probably take the 8am sailing from Tsawwassen then hop on the 10am from SB to Mayne Island as you wouldent make the earlier 8:25am sailing to Mayne arriving at 10:40am. Coming back you could probably do a throughfare easier as you could take the 4:45 or 4:55 arriving at around 6-6:15 at SB then catch the 7pm back to Tsawwassen if you wanted to do a thoughfare.

LOL, good point.
We'll throughfare the 8:00 Queen of Saanich (?), then get the 10:00am to Mayne. We can meet the Victoria people on board that sailing. Coming back, we'll do the 5:05 Queen of Nanaimo. Or, for those who wish to stay longer, can get the 7:45 Bowen Queen. Victoria passengers can get the 4:55 or the 7:40.
Hope that works.

yeah I would probably do the 10am to Mayne Island from SB then either the 4:55 or the 7:45 back to SB if I take my car which I might do this time. Otherwise again I might go back via Tsawwassen. oh damn it, Saturday no 8pm though from Tsawwassen. Oh well maybe just take the car and go back on the 7:45pm.
