Well seeing the summer is fast approaching and we are having ideas about ferry trips we should still make plans for a Galiano trip this summer. We talked before about either a Friday or Saturday for this day trip. Which day would be better for most people??? Either day is fine with me. Will we be walking on or driving and if so who would be driving??? We need to figure out the sailings, Friday you would be able to get on the Bowen probably! Now when? July or August?? I am gone from July 14th till probably the 21st so either before that or after that would could do this trip. Scott, I know said would be interested, what about you Flugel?? I know Chris, Graham would be, who else???

I can't do weekends or August.
Yeah, Bowen Queen sounds good, except the only time the Bowen Queen sails on a Friday, is at 6:20 pm. We would have to get it on the way back, at 4:50 pm to Tsawwassen.

I'd go too but I'd need to know like a month in advance so I can book time off work.

The 7th would be good. I can always plan things so that I can make it to Adams Lake on my days off.

Alright, the 7th it is then! Who is gonna drive over??? Ferry from SB leaves at 10:30am and arrives at Galiano at 11:40am which will probably be the one I will be on! The Queen of Nanaimo leaves Tsawwassen at 10:15am arrving at 11:05am. Looks like the Vancouver guys will be there first. Coming back from Galiano to Tsawwassen you have either the 4:50pm sailing on the Bowen or the 5:25 Nanny sailing stopping at Mayne Island. My ferry to SB would be 4:20pm. I was gonna suggest if someone was bringing a car like Chris or anyone, I could maybe walk on from SB seeing the Vancouver guys would be there first could meet me at Sturdies Bay and then I could go back to Tsawwassen with you guys then go back to SB from there I had thought. Or I am thinking now maybe I could stay at my aunts in Ladner that night and just go from Galiano back to Vancouver stay over and go back the next day. Are you Vancouver guys gonna take the Nanaimo back or the Bowen???

I can't do weekends or August. Yeah, Bowen Queen sounds good, except the only time the Bowen Queen sails on a Friday, is at 6:20 pm. We would have to get it on the way back, at 4:50 pm to Tsawwassen. The Bowen Queen's tie-up terminal (home base) while assigned to route 9a during the summer season is Tsawwassen, actually, so there is a trip that arrives in the SGI much sooner than that. Although I don't remember the schedule exactly (I could rummage through my papers from last year), I do remember that many weekday sailings of the Bowen Queen are Direct in either one direction between Long Harbour and TSA, or direct in both directions. Outside of weekends, the milk-run is generally covered by the Queen of Nanaimo, with an all-stops-made departure from TSA at 10:30am every morning, from Monday to Friday. We might have to consider sacrificing taking taking the tiny Bowen Queen for the 50 or so minute crossing, and (" twist my rubber arm") force ourselves to take the newly renovated Queen of Nanaimo for that Friday 10:30am direct sailing from TSA to Sturdies Bay, Galiano. The evenining, though, is another story entirely.

Depends what I am doing if I stay over in Van on the night of the 7th and go from Galiano to Tsawwassen I might take the Nanny 5:25pm sailing that stops at Mayne then save the Bowen for another date as a foot passenger!

Who is with me on the 5:25pm sailing from Galiano to Tsawwassen? It's the Queen of Nanaimo stopping at Mayne arriving at Tsawwassen about 7:15pm. The Bowen might be really packed which is why I am thinking of doing the Bowen another day from Tsawwassen as a foot passenger! That's if I can stay over in Van! Otherwise for me it will be a day trip! Hey Scott how are you gonna get to Galiano from Nanaimo??? Come down to Swartz Bay or go from Duke Point to Tsawwassen then Tsawwassen to Galiano.

Yeah, I'm in for the Nanaimo. Those ferries are going to be packed, I'm going to save the Bowen Queen for another day. 5:25 sounds good.
I'll either be travelling foot passenger or bicycle.
Vehicle passengers: I recommend reservations.

We're hoping to get to Bellhouse Park, atleast, to do some ferry watching, but personally I'd like to get up to Bluffs Park, if possible, to get some shots of Active Pass from the same angle as so many historic photos were taken from. Here's a couple maps that I've found useful:
[glow=blue,1,300]www.gulfislandsguide.com/maps/galianodetail.htm
www.galianoisland.com/maps.php
Please Note:[/glow]We don't yet know if any of us will be bringing a vehicle, and at those prices (fare and fuel) (paired with my advice on how to survive on the ferries without a car) I wouldn't rely on any one of us bringing a vehicle. That said, if you feel unable to walk atleast as far as Bellhouse Park, you may find yourself hanging out at Sturdies Bay for quite a while.

No clue where anything is on Galiano. But ferry spotting… So tempting. I will see what I can do about a car.

That's the Sturdies Bay ferry terminal; see just below that where it says Bellhouse Park?... well that's where Bellhouse Park is... Oh, and if you're looking for that pass that's so active, where the ferries cross, try to find the big white letters at the bottom-right that announce Active Pass. Cheers

Well the Bluffs Park would be a long long way to walk. I am probably gonna bring a car. Whether I take the Nanny to Tsawwassen after or just wait and take the last ferry back to SB is still undecided for me.

Well I'll be on the Nanny that evening on the way back to Tsawwassen. If anyone needs to take transit from there, I'll be able to give you some help. I might even consider throwing you gas-guzzlers a bone by giving you driving-directions if you need them... ...But just remember that car drivers without their vehicles are relegated to the front of the bus

If you guys don't have cars, and wanted to take a side trip over to Montague Harbour for instance, there is or at least was a guy on Galiano who operates a van/taxi service from Sturdies Bay. I think it was five bucks a head each way. I know your main purpose is ferry watching, though.

Well, so far my plan is to drive out to Tsawwassen, and walk on to the Nanny. But if someone wanted to get a ride with me over to Galiano, I could drive over there, but only if we go halfers on the Fare, as it's a little bit rediculous (Pretty much the same as a Major Route Fare for a car and passenger). Of course, if Graham found out I drove over there, he would make up a bunch of signs and give them to the members who walked on to the Ferry, protesting that "Chris is wrecking the atmosphere with his 10 year old 6 cylinder car" when I could just come back at him and say, "My cars exhaust would compare to the drive I did from Squamish to Tsawwassen, with the ride on of those 20 year old diesel buses from Ladner to Tsawwasssen".

Maybe you guys should go see if there's anything left of the ex BC Ferry Terminal at Montague Harbour. I think there isn't anything but you never know. Anyone ever been there when it was a BCF Terminal or after it was one?

I've been to Montague Harbour, and there is nothing there except camping and a beach.
