Ok just out of curiosity I am wondering who on the forum works for the Ferries. I know there are a few of you. Engineer I know works on the Cumberland. Someone on here works on the Queen of Nanaimo, if I am correct I think it is noleaksyet, am I right?? And someone works on the Queen of Alberni, is that notmuchlonger??? For the person who works on the Alberni I would assume you would be working on the Esquimalt now on route 30??

That is correct Karl. We are on the Esquimalt now until May 9th I believe. Would you be seen walking the upper passenger deck? If so, Karl and Grahame might have seen you during their trip yesterday on route 30.

We were on the 3:50pm Queen of Esquimalt sailing from Duke Point on Wednesday, so if you were working then we might of seen you. A crew member made a comment to Graham when we were on the Esquimalt yesterday as this crew member thought Graham was taking a photo the carpet and this crew member said to him, something about never seeing someone who was that interested in the carpets, lol! Maybe Graham can remember what he said. lol!

Airchime Here's a couple shots that I took from that departure of the Queen of Vancouver from Duke Point: ----------------- ---- ferrypicsbygraham.fotopic.net/p28588966.html
ferrypicsbygraham.fotopic.net/p28583444.htmlMe and Karl were sitting on the port side of the forward upper deck lounge. If so, Karl and Grahame might have seen you during their trip yesterday on route 30. It's actually spelled " Graham" ...Just to let all of you know. Cheers.

Thanks Graham,
So you guys were probably looking right at me when I took the photo of the Esquimalt! Too funny!!
You took the photos of the Vancouver leaving Duke Point and then waited for the Esquimalt? Talk about dedication!

I am from the island so I met Graham at Duke Point. After the Vancouver arrived and we took photos then we went to Departure Bay and got photos of the Alberni arriving. We dident stay at Duke Point cause that would be a long wait till we caught the 3:50 to Tsawwassen. Then I returned on the 6:30 from Tsawwassen.

Hi folks,
Got off the Skytrain about an 3 hours ago,
I took the Skytrain down from Scott Road to Burrard, and got the 257 Horeshoe Bay Express. Then, after arriving at HSB, I got the 10:30 am Queen of Cowichan, to Nanaimo. Then, got the 2-Hammond Bay bus to Downtown. Then, after making a mad rush, hopped aboard the 12:45 Quinsam and did a round trip to Gabriola and back. Coming back, got the 2-Hammond Bay to Woodgrove, got off at DPB, then hopped aboard the 3:00 pm Queen of Alberni (it was 20 minutes early arriving at DPB, lol) with a series of Brownie/Girl Guide colonies (as I call them). I grabbed a BC Burger, then, upon arrival a HSB, they made us disembark the vessel via the Vehicle Deck (The Girl Guides were sooo disorganized, and sooo into lining up against the wall for a head count (no one was left in the cafeteria, btw) they almost got hit by the trucks coming behind them). Then did the same return: got the 257 to Burrard, then a Skytrain to Scott Road, where our car was parked.
I will be uploading photos onto my Webshots account tommorow.

Sounds like you had a great trip! Hopfully the weather was somewhat nice, to make the trip more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing your pics! hopped aboard the 3:00 pm Queen of Alberni (it was 20 minutes early arriving at DPB, lol) On Route 2, they time it so the crew has an extra half an hour for the shift change. So they arrive at 2:05, and leave at 3:00. I don't know why they have more time to get switched around on that Route, compared to Route 1, and 30. But then again, on Route 1, they don't start until 7am, instead of 6:30am.

Hi folks, I grabbed a BC Burger, then, upon arrival a HSB, they made us disembark the vessel via the Vehicle Deck I'm not sure why the Alberni does that. Maybe the foot passenger ramps don't line up to the openings on the ship? Also, they're using Berth 1 for the Alberni, not Berth 2 like the other Nanaimo ships. Alan

True! The foot passenger walkways in HSB do not fit the Alberni.

Wouldn't they be able to put the foot passenger ramp on the upper outer deck? But then again, there's no elevator access from up there. But I know when the other C's dock there, they just put the ramp on the upper outer deck.

The Alberni has no gates in the railing on that deck. Except for the gates at the liferaft stations.

Okay.I'll explain to you why.
On one side of the vessel (in this case it was the side that was toward HSB) the arms (the things that stick out on either end of the ship) were shorter then they were on the other side. Thus, being fitted for Duke Point. And not Horseshoe Bay.
Also, does the fact that we landed at Berth 1 really matter? I mean, lol, the Capilano used the walkway for offloading passengers in that berth. Does that make any significance? I rarely travel out of HSB, usually out of Tsawwassen. BUT I do know that the NORMAL Nainaimo ferries dock in Berth 2, lol.

So why dont they just run her the opposite to HSB with the side that has the longer arms at the HSB then? Cause when she docks at Tsawwassen I think that is the end they use! Not totally sure though!

As you can see in this picture, the ferry has longer arms on one side then it does on the other. lol

The longer ones are cool but you cant walk out on them while they are underway unlike the Cowichan and Coquitlam!

BUT I do know that the NORMAL Nainaimo ferries dock in Berth 2, lol. I don't think they could have even used the foot passenger ramps anyway, even if it was in berth 2, or 3. The outer decks that extend out near the bow, aren't quite as long as those, on the other C's. photosbychris2006.fotopic.net/p28882315.htmlphotosbychris2006.fotopic.net/p25849300.htmlAlso, the #2 end should have been pointing towards HSB, which is the end with the extended deck for the foot passenger ramps on the Vancouver end. Otherwise, you wouldn't have been able to board via the foot passenger ramp at Departure Bay, due to the placement of the gates, and foot passenger ramp.

The longer CATWALKS on the Alberni are used at the Tsawwassen end....and I don't see why they can't be used at Horseshoe Bay as the normal "C" Class gates would be around the same distance from the bow. But I gues Notmuchlonger would know best.
