Awesome Video! Its nice to see video footage of the ferries in the Expo colours. It brings back alot of memories from my early childhood when I used to go to Vancouver alot. I used to love going on the Surrey.

Yeah the memories. Hmm...Now I wonder what you're like when you see a C Class for the first time as a small kid I think you would say something like "Wow! that Ferry is Big, It has 2 Decks!" The C Class are such nice ships dont you think

The C-Class are what I thought all BC Ferries were. I couldn't tell the difference, same colours, look the same to a 4 year old. What was ineresting about that trip was that was coming in on the 3pm SOVI from Swartz Bay and it was around 4:35pm arriving at Tsawwassen and the Coquitlam was loading. Now it seems to me that day the Coquitlam was really late leaving as I would assume that was the 3:15pm from Tsawwassen which is usually the New West and probably going to Departure Bay as I am not sure if Duke Point was open then. That video was made just before Duke Point was opened, and looking at my Schedule from back then, that was either the 3:30 or the 6:00 (Add 15 mins to the current sailing times and that was the old sailing time). So one of the ferries was really late, or really early. Probably really late. On the subject of sailing times, on route 2 there you would have to add half an hour to the current sailing times to get the sailing time the ferries would leave at when Departure Bay was never empty. So 6:30am ferry = 7:00am ferry back then. But then they wouldn't have the extra half an hour for the crew change, so they'd leave at 3:00pm like it still is today. So I wonder why they need half an hour to get on to the ferry with the shift change, while that doesn't happen on the other major ferries that I know of.....This will get Cascade going.

Don't forget it takes 20 minutes extra to sail to Departure Bay so the Schedule should be different plus the weather in the Video didn't look too good

It takes pretty much the exact same time either way going to Duke Point or Departure Bay. The time it takes to back pedal from Entrance Island to Duke Point is approx. 15-20 mins, and it's the same distance from Entrance Island to Departure Bay. So the crossing time was never affected when Route 30 started operating out of Duke Point. It probably wouldn't add any more time if the Route 2 Ferries went from there instead of Departure Bay. But yeah, it was a pretty bad day for weather it looked like, it looked like there was some dense fog.

It's a 30 minute buffer zone b/c a 2 hour turn time is impossible to maintain on Route 2 when there is any major traffic. Route 1 I believe is actually the only route with out some form of break worked in.
Route 30 going to Duke Point also, in some cases, saved time. (esp. in the summer) Dpearture Bay was effectivly an overcrowded gong show for 4-5 years leading up too it's construction. It was often overfilled all the time with traffic and all the backlogs on the terminal end of things kept the ferries very, very late. Not only that but if a secondary ship runs late out of DB headed to HB it would force the Route 30 vessel to wait.
And on top of this all, the last summer of op in Departure Bay also saw the Quinsam working our of Berth 1 b/c the Nan Harbour terminal was having considerable work done to it over a period of a few weeks.

Nice video! Well, where was the Sidney and Tsawwassen at that time?

I'm assuming you were talking about the second video....
Well the Sidney was operating on the Comox to Powell River route, which the Burnaby works on right now. The Tsawwassen was performing the same duties back then as it is now, back and forth on the Saltery Bay run, with being a replacement in the Southern Gulf Islands.

No no, I never forgot. I have the video pretty much ready to go, I just gotta cut it in half, because its too big to upload. So I got quite a bit of editing to do still. But going to school, and then straight to work right after (which is what I'm about to do in a few minutes) until 7, and then homework for the rest of the evening till about 11:30 makes it tough. But today's Friday, so you might see it posted either today or tomorrow......hopefully!

Ok, finally I have the Minors video ready for you guys!! Sorry for the long delay, but enjoy! PS, I ended up taking the part of the welcoming of the Skeena Queen, as it was too large of a section, but look for that video, along with a V/S Class video by the end of the week. At 3:43 on the video, there's a shot of the Mayne Queen or Bowen Queen.
Does anyone know which terminal this is at? I'm drawing blanks trying to identify it.
thanks.

As far as I know, it's the Bowen Queen, as I remember Karl telling me a few days ago that the Mayne wasn't operating out of Victoria when he made this video. So it was either at Deas, or acting as a replacement on the Quadra Island or Bowen Island routes.

So is that location either at Q-Cove, or Snug-Cove?
I just can't remember ever seeing that place, that's shown at 3:43 on the video.
Karl, help !
