According to Flensburger's website, they start cutting steel for the Super C's on Friday! The keel laying can't be too far behind. First one will arrive in December 2007.

I guess that means that Friday will be a general-strike in BC........... Why would that be?

Because all of the shipworkers here wanted to build them. Makes sense really, but there has been little media coverage about it, so I doubt it would happen. Who wants to call up BCTV?....I'm sure you'd get, what Wayne calls it, "A Nifty Global Prize"......

Why would the shipbuilders of BC go on strike when they are building a new intermediate class vessel?
|
|
|
Post by Ferryman on Mar 15, 2006 10:40:20 GMT -8
Because it's not as big as the 3 Super Cs project, meaning they could of made alot of money off of them.

Oh, yeah maybe. But they have more to look forward to, there are 18 more ships to come in the next 15 years!

Anyone know what is going on with the new I-Class? BC Ferries has a news release from Feb 2005 on their website and that is the last I have heard of anything. They seem to be dragging their feet.

I guess that announcement will come soon...... I saw the press release of the 2 year plan to expand Departure Bay on the CH Noon Hour News today. Looks like quite the plan! But remember, Terminals come before the Ferries

So, do any of us know when the new "I Class" vessel will come into place on route 7?
The class name (I Class) makes it sound like Apple makes it? the new IClass.

there was a rumor the I class is going overseas too Yeah there was a shipyard in Poland they might of wanted to use but Vancouver is the place they will build it. Super C constructin begins Friday? or just steel cutting I thought they weren't going to start construction till september...or is that regular construction?

I thought they were building one overseas, and one over here? One to replace the Tsawwassen, and another to go on the Bowen Island route.

well if they are also building one oversea's they haven't announced that yet. Since they changed BC Ferries to a private company, we can always expect them to delay announcement and information until the last possible minute.

i wonder if once this one is built, they will use this design again, or will change it, like so many other designs in the fleet

i wonder if once this one is built, they will use this design again, or will change it, like so many other designs in the fleet David Hahn wants to pump 'em out, they'd build more but are restricted by other investements they also have to make. It's all about balance, I think they're making good descisions.
