And Quinsam needs one, she is a big rustbucket (As Chivapicci says) and realy needs a refit, but she is special because she is now the only ship left with the 1986 Expo livery. The Expo Livery looks like Network South East's Toothpaste livery.

I do not think that the Nimpkish needs one (let alone deserving one) considering that she is just sitting in Blubber Bay. Plz correct me if she does anything else.
It's also a matter of elimination, with Powell River Q, and Kwuna all done up.

You're right. The Nimpkish is only used in times of desperation. I assume the new ship (name is escaping me, something Burr) will allow her inevitable retirement.

The Mayne Queen does go through active pass cause she goes to Galiano and so does the Cumberland.

That pic posted by FT16 reminds me of the time I was a Swartz Bay (not to long ago) They were sitting side by side, both absolutley identical. I was not sure which one to get on to the Gulf Islands because their names were covered by the bumpers...

The John Atlantic Burr will be taking over the Denman to Hornby route, that is what I heard. I dunno what would happen to the Kahloke. The Nimpkish, could be a supplementary vessel, or a new route vessel.

I think the Nimpkish will be back up on routes like Texada-Powell River during Texada Sandcastle weekend or on Denman Hornby if ever needed the Kahloke will probably become a supplementary for Swartz Bay-SGI, Gabriola, and Bowen at peak times, and Thetis-Kuper when the Klitsa is in refit and she could work on the Albion Ferries when needed and the Tachek could become back up for the Northern Gulf Island routes

Okay let's put on our logical thinking hats:
1. There won't be a new minor route if BCFS hasn't already announced it. That's not how the world works. 2. The Nimpkish is ALREADY supplemental, and BCFS won't keep her sitting around if they don't have too.. 3. the Kahloke is very versitile, the Nimpkish not as much.

I could see the Nimpkish quietly leaving the fleet like her sisters within the next year.

Maybe, but why throw away a vessel that could help the NIP? The Nimpkish fits in at Blubber bay, so why throw her away, when she can supply extra capacity on the route from PR to Texada?

She isn't costing anything right now is she?!

Of course it's costing them. There is a cost to give her power while she is just sitting there, to run the lights and etc. Then there's the cost to get a crew member(s) to make sure the engines and generators are well maintained, as the ferry is pretty much on standby I guess. But the only times they really use the Nimpkish is when the NIP breaks down, or when crews would like to run fire drills aboard her. They did that with the Albert J when it was still part of the fleet a few years ago. Everything costs something, nobody does anything for free. That's just the way it is.

Recertification of the ship annually is also quite costly.

In 200? when the Quinsam was sidlined due to a hole in the hull the Nimpkish and Kahloke was pressed into service on the Gabriola to Nanaimo run.
The Nimpkish normally replaces the Tenaka when that vessle is not in service, also the Nimpkish is known to do the Hornby-Denman run the odd time.

The Nimpkish and Kahloke replaced the Quinsam when that happened? I swear it was the Bowen Queen... I know on Pkeenlysides BC Highway site when he does a tour of route 30, he has a picture of the Nimpkish leaving Gabriola. But that was way after that hole in the hull incedent in the year 2000. But the Quinsam did get new engines in 2002, so that might of been when the Nimpkish and Kahloke were doing the route. But seeming I would of lived over there by that time still, I would of thought I would of noticed the ferries running that route, but obviously I didn't.
