www.sfu.ca/~danen/Surrey.htmNote all the liofe saving equipment has already been taken off, they're very fast. Ventellation is also being stripped off, as was mentioned bfore there is access cuts at both the fore and aft viewing lounges. They are fast workers! The other shots are just random marine things, SeaBus, a Trawler in front of the city and such.

Oh, and you can also tell they have the windows marked which ones they're going to take out on the passenger deck, to make way for the Evacuation Chutes by boarding them up on the inside.

I think she was moved into Dry Dock today. When I was driving to work I crossed Second Narrows at about 10:15 am there there was a tug pushing it around.

Chris wrote: "d***, I missed that!!" Guess you'll have to wait for when she's put back in the water. I have the same problem trying to figure out when ships are leaving/entering Deas, with only loose rumours and tidal charts.

Got a bit of an update here. I went down to the Drydocks today, so see the progress on the Surrey. It's quite the hive of activity to see in real life, compared to looking at pictures of the ferries getting the midlife refit. She looks just like how the Oak Bay did last year of course. They haven't covered up any of the car deck windows yet, but you can tell they're in the middle of putting the fire windows on the #2 end of the passenger deck, along the little outside deck for the foot passengers. Of course, I took my camera, so I have some goodies to show, I guess you could say. Bonus picture of the Voyager Sorry, I didn't get up close to the cats, I didn't want to risk being chased by the guards, as they were giving me sour looks with where I was at, and questioned me with the pics of the Surrey.

I don't think they were doing anything. You can't see it very well, but looking into the car deck, there is a temporary wooden wall blocking the enterance. But they have put the evacuation chutes, I think, back on the roof, or whatever is in those cylindrical tubes that they place up there.

I remember there was some website which had rules of photography and I wish I knew where it was but there was a thing saying you are allowed to take pictures of transportation. How much I want to know where it is but it is either in the Non Ferries or BC Ferries Discussion archives.

The person that approached me wasn't on the verge of calling the cops to lock me up or anything. It was one of the people that were working on the refit of the Surrey and had just happened to be getting off of his shift and walking home as I was taking the first picture you see that I posted at the top, (the picture of it head on) and he simply asked me if I was taking a picture of the ship. I of course said yes, and he said "cool" and continued on without really caring. But the guard near the gate in front of the Voyager looked at me in a sour way, I guess because I look like some punk kid getting ready to jump the fence and vandalize everything, when that wasn't what I was going to do anyway. When I was just taking a simple picture of the Ferry. I did overexagerate a little bit when I said the guards were getting ready to chase me down, but they were looking at me in a way to make me feel uncomfortable, so I just took the picture and walked away.
Cascade, Hahaha, I guess I'll have to find a cave to hide in for now, until I change my name and identidy.

I took photos from that exact same spot of the Cowichan and Oak Bay once and never saw anyone giving me a sour look or was approached. I guess it depends what time you go too.

Or perhaps you could hide in a small hole in the ground under a small clay-built building...George Bush would be baffled. I don't think that would stop him...you'd need to hide in a bunker with concrete 50 m thick deep underground...that probably wouldn't work either. George would have you out of there and being tortured in a maximum security prison. You may just have to head for Mars before George stops his search (or he may continue, warning citizens that you have "weapons" of mass destruction). Watch out Chris, those photos are capable of blowing Squamish off the map.

Why do you all think I wish to move to Canada? If Hillary Clinton is going to be coming into presidency, will she be as good as Bill w/o the c*r*a*p? or will she be as bad as Bush. Here is the catch, Bush signs off on the final thing, anything is passed through Congress and Senators and all that. My guess is that the Department of Homeland Security, someone in there came up with the idea, I am not sure if it went directly to Mr. Bush or went thorugh other departments. In democracy, every one takes the blame but most tend to blame the top of the food chain.

Don't think it's much better here. Gas prices are high and the US dollar is low compared to the Canadian one right now. And with the Liberals, it isn't as good as you'd think. You're a powerful nation...so be proud you live there despite what the government is doing. They get their lesson taught to them when the following election is on.

I get a new camera for Christmas, and take some pictures of a Ferry or two in my spare time for fun, and I'm considered a terrorist-picture taker. Hmm... I would sure hope that I'm not considered some type of terrorist! Pretty rediculous seeming I never crossed any boundaries that I wasn't supposed to. Hey Grahame, where did you go to get those close up shots of the Explorer? Did you cross the tracks and walk over there? (What I wasn't willing to do) I took my pictures of the Voyager and the head on pic of the Surrey from the Main Road in North Van, and then went to the Pier someone mentioned that was just recently opened up, after paying a buck fifty for parking. Also I went to the "Q" Tower at the Lonsdale Quay to get a few more shots. I do have more pics to post if anybody is interested.... I broke no laws....I did everything as legal as possible...just like a normal citizen.
