"they might be hard pressed to answer you."
Enough pressure and something will be done by a polititian... it's the nature of their profession; you can trust me on this one.

OK - then what about an "open" letter to a major newspaper ? After you have done a simple letter to David Hahn at BCFS - need to give them a possible chance - be fair, will serve you in the future - when they start playing hardball with you.
Then take BCFS reply, add it to your "open" letter to a newspaper and see what happens.

Hmm... I like your thinking on that. Now the idea of writing Hahn doesn't seem so rediculous or pointless.

If this Forum had more of a "presents" than it could write a open letter to Hahn, with a more detail follow up letter to the major press/media players.

I have written him a few e mails with my grips, and surprising he answered them right away.

Well the "ball" is now rolling - how fast do you want it to go and how far?
As they say "it is in your court now" - keep us all informed.

Looks like she is still on route 9 well into January. I thought the Nanny was suppose to be back right before Christmas. According to RBI she is still on the route Jan 3rd. So I wonder what date the Nanny will be back in service.

I guess this upgrade took alot longer than they had originally planned. I wonder what else they have to do still, or if she still has those white tents on her roof and everything.

Has anyone seen the Union Magazine - Strait Talk - March 2005 issue? There it is talked about Route 9 been dropped. The Union agree's so does the company and also the LRB. So I guess the Q-of T is doomed, unless Harry gets a massive increase in his pocket money...

Talk about route 9 being dropped. Why would they drop Tsawwassen - Southern Gulf Islands? Wouldn't the Gulf Island residents have a fit about that? It also has little to do with the Queen of Tsawwassen, and more with the Queen of Nanaimo.

The Queen of Naniamo is scheduled back in service Jan 9th. See service notice. The Bowen Queen is doing extra sailings from Swartz Bay to help out with the traffic in the gulf islands while the Nanny is out of service. See latest service notices about it!

Yeah, and now the Nanaimo is out till the 9th now. I guess they found more and more things that needed to be worked on. I don't mind if the extra work gives them more time to do a better job, and to make it all safe, basically the whole point of the project. www.bcferries.com/schedules/notices/notice12190502.html

John,
I was very surprised to see in "Strait Talk" - the numbers of trips on certain routes been proposed by the "company" - BCFS and the Union proposing a different or same or even less for the same route and then the LRB adding there bit.
For Route 12 - Brentwood-Mill - company wants to close it, LRB want to close it and the Union want only 4 round trips. Route 9 - company wants to close it, so do the union and the LRB want 2 round trips in "season" - which I take to mean summer and winter.
It appears that there is around 5 vessels either in dry dock - re-fit or sitting idle - so the management will have to get there heads around what to do when the 3 new Super C's come on line - plus of course the other one - from WMG.

Now why the hell would they close Route 9 Cascade? And please don't mention that every route in the system is for sale in your reply...again.

So I guess the Q-of T is doomed, unless Harry gets a massive increase in his pocket money... I believe that is outdated information. There was a big fight about the crew levels required on the service, however the union conceeded and the Naniamo will return with a reduced ticket and crew level.

Doug,
No I wouldn't mention that every route is open to competition, (It's in the ACT so read it) but in "Strait Talk" March 2005 issue - they talked about a number of routes - which are well known - but Route 9 was, or has never been mention in the past. I wanted to find out who and what is LRB - which means "Labor Relations Board" - is it the government, or union, or is it totally independent body of what?
On certain routes there is a total agreement in the number of round trips - others big gulf between what the company (BCFS) and what the Union are proposing and the LRB are proposing.
Some of the article relates to manning issues - but others relate to vessels on the route, and the economical / financial benefits of the route.
I don't follow the Union issue on route 12 - dropping it from 9 round trips to 4 round trips. It would lose even more money. They need to increase the trips not drop trips. The people of Brentwood and Mill Bay are actually asking for more - not less trips/crossings. So who's right?

part of the lifesavimg equipment upgrade on the nanny is because of the agreement with the union and the company. the company wanted to lower the crew onboard and the union would only agree with a cut if it was to use the new evac chutes that will be onboard
