I've got some shots of the Saanich at Deas, but I'm wondering if anyone has anything more precise on when she leaves. I'd really like to get some shots of a V-Class (or any Class, for that matter) leaving Deas.

The Coquitlam should be leaving Deas on either the 24th or 25th to go off to Langdale for the 26th. But it's hard to say if she's going to leave this weekend or the day before she comes back into service.

What is she having done in that short time? I hear they are overhauling one main engine and all the other stuff that goes with refit.

Engineer - has the cylinder liners gone on her? Hence that would make it a short - major job?

I remember one of the cylinder heads failed on her about two months ago. I remember the service notice for it.

If anyone else has any similar tips (excluding what we can assume by the service notices for ship replacements), I'd really appreciate hearing them. Cheers

If a Cylinder Head failed then it would damage the rest of the cylinder sleeve - but I would think that they would replace it at the same time.
With a cylinder liner damage - it could be the age of the engine and lack of warming up time - these older engines do need time to pre-heat - warm up first.

On the topic of ferries leaving or arriving at Deas, is there a time of day/day of the week that this usually happens? You'd get great views all along the Fraser out to Steveston if you timed it right.

Engineer - has the cylinder liners gone on her? Hence that would make it a short - major job? Since I work on the Cumberland I cant answer that. Normally the liners are pulled, measured and honed, if they are too worn then they get replaced.

So if they are worn-ed - what would cause them to be replaced so quickly - or is it just a standard repair / replace manual - maintenance job?

She is actually back at Swartz Bay now. She has her bow to the dock and looks like she is in berth 3 or 4. I think the Esquimalt is still there too, as she isent running until next Friday. The Queen of Esquimalt will do tommorrows extra sailings then the Saanich will be back next weekend according to the RBI.

Late Friday nite the Queen of Saanich came out of the Fraser River and did a Compass Swing for about a hour before heading home to Swartz Bay.
