Actually I just found out now. Checked RBI for Friday from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen and they have the Queen of Esquimalt listed so I think the Saanich might be going in for refit! That explains why she aint there!

I was wondering why the Vancouver did the morning round-trip instead of the Saanich on Tuesday.

Looks like the Esquimalt is at Swartz Bay right now! I wonder how long the Saanich will be out. I was wondering the same thing too about the Vancouver although she dident do it in place of the Saanich cause instead of a 12 and 4 from Swartz Bay there was a 12 and 4 from Tsawwassen and a 2 and 6 from Swartz Bay which is the Vancouvers schedule anyways.

8-)Queen of Esquimalt and Saanich
The Queen of Esquimalt sailed direct from Horeshoe Bay to Swartz Bay yesturday after replacing the Queen of Oak Bay for the Morning shift,
I heard the Queen of Saanich on the radio scanner a couple days ago (Tuesday) heading for the Sandheads and Deas Dock.
Also according to this months Western Magazine the mv Kwuna is at deas dock, See the yahoo group for more info.

Good luck Mac. Dont go through Radio Shack as the Canadian stores dont sell them and you have to go to the states to get them at Radio Shack. Ebay is the best bet! I am looking for a scanner myself too!

I should get my scanner out....I don't think it will work here that well because I'm in the moutains, and you can't even get the Vancouver radio stations...just one terrible local station that everybody hates...but Whistler made sure they weren't stuck with it so they put a few towers on the Mountains and they can get radio stations in Vancouver and Victoria...not fair..but it would be interesting to see if this works at all!

Having a Scanner is awesome..! I listen to it all the time. I get all the local frequencies, plus I can get the Vancouver Skytrain frequencies from Nanaimo.

I am looking to get a scanner for marine and aviation. So hard to find them anywhere though. I have been looking on ebay which seems to be the best bet. Stupid Radio Shack in Canada dont have them.

Stupid Radio Shack in Canada dont have them. Now that they changed to "The Source", they no longer carry the same products that you could only get there when they were Radio Shack.

Try going through marine stores or pawn shops. I'm trying to think of what stores are in Victoria...what about that huge outdoor place that has been around for years....Iron something...by Sports Traders...I can't really remember where that was....I always remember it for being right where all of the old train tracks were for the old trolleys.

Yes, I have a home base scanner and a portable. I have my eyes on another one which will allow Aircraft frequencies. Not all scanners accept aircraft frequinies, but now is the time for me to upgrade.

Picking up radio frequencies with a scanner is illegal, people that post what they hear on their scanners are breaking two laws actually (1. using the scanner, 2. reproducing what they've heard).
I don't question that people do it - but they should not. The only scanners that are (legally) available for public consumption are marine and aviation, as noted. And they must be for your reasonable use (ie/ not listening into other people like BCF)

Then reporters and news agencies that have them are breaking the law?

Well we know people at our hanger at the airport who have scanners and listen to all the aircraft traffice. For us flyers it is neat to listen to what is going on and same with the ferries I know people on the yahoo board who have scanners and listen to the ferry traffic.

Then reporters and news agencies that have them are breaking the law? The first law actually stopped listen to police/fire/ambulance channel for that exact reason. ...and the public cannot even pick up most of their channels, anyways.
