Long line ups for the ferry to VI. 3 sail wait @ Tsawwassen and 1 sail wait @ hsb with all toll lanes packed to capacity. Looks like crews are going to get some OT tonight.

This is unusual for this time of year...You might expect some thing like this in the middle of August or on the Labour Day Weekend.

They should have put the Saanich back in service and put the Esquimalt on extra sailings between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay.

If only BCFerries had the sense to keep the Pacificats as extra vessels until the Super C's Arrive

It's busy cause it's a long weekend with Rememberance Day falling on a Friday this year. And of course a long weekend comes and everyone has to come to the island. What else is new.

What do ya mean? The Pacificats could have been supplementary vessels, or backup vessels.

Harry, the Pacificats for one have to refuel every day and with the price of gasoline it is rediculous to run those things. Second too small for passengers and it was a bad design that is why they were laied up.

BC Ferries didn't rid themselves of the ships, the gov't ridden BCF of them.

I heard they had to refuel after doing one crossing (for ex: just going from Nanaimo to Vancouver, and then refueling, returning to Nanaimo and refueling again..) after going full service speed across the Strait with vehicles on board.

I believe it was twice a day...which is still too much.

Exactly my point, literally "flushing money down the toilet" or should I say into your gas tank.

It's too keep the weight of fuel tanks down. The old engines as initially installed did eat too much fuel, but thats not the main reason for the multiple refuelings dring a day. They also had a quick fuel line so they could do it very quickly.

So how much fuel did they hold ? How many tons? as it is not safe loading fuel to fast - need to bleed the tanks or you have a massive build up of gases - from the empty tanks

About refueling after every trip, well that does not say much. No idea with what tanks they were fitted out. It would be interesting to see how much they did take, in comparison with other ships of the same class, to give a valid statement.

There is now a 2 sailing wait from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay. Just rediculas. A long weekend and everyone has to come to the island. Go figure! Where is the Esquimalt?? Dosent look like she is at SB. They should of kept her so they could of used her at noon from SB seeing the Queen of Saanich obviously isent ready yet!

The Saanich is at SB docked with her bow to the dock so it dosent look like she is ready yet. Esquimalt was there yesterday and the Vancouver is replacing the New West. I have no idea where the Esquimalt is now!

Could she be heading up to Horseshoe Bay or at one of the smaller berths at tsawwassen or refit?

ok looking at the current conditions the Queen of Saanich left SB at 12:33 and there is still a V sitting with her bow to the dock at SB right now. I thought it was the Saanich sitting there, unless it is the Esquimalt now. Unless the Esquimalt left at noon and the CC people just cant get their ferries right. But why would the Esquimalt be sitting with her bow to the dock. I never saw another V class at Swartz Bay today so who knows what is going on.

It is easier doing that at berth three because you can not swing in unlike berth 2 or 1

The Esquimalt was at Swartz Bay yesterday, and the Queen of Saanich did the 12:33 sailing... unscheduled I believe.
