Well, looks like the Quinsam will be last to be painted in the "new" BCF colours, because the Kwuna is coming down from up north to have a refit for 2 months starting September 11th. I'm sure that hasn't been done for a while according to my records! A tug and barge is also going to be replacing her until she gets back. www.bcferries.com/schedules/notices/notice08300501.html

Thats good, I wonder if Kwuna is coming down under her own power. Its still summer so its rather calm up there.

yeah, but I think that Quinsam should have the old colours, just refit her engine and her exterior parts, not the paint, leave the paint alone, just derust her and keep her shipshape. Paint is the very last thing that needs to be done.

I'd hate to see the Kwuna across Hecate. They should really do the refit at a boat works up there.

One thing I just noticed about the 3 K-Class in the BCF fleet is that they're all different sizes. Obviously Kahloke being the biggest, Klitsa being the middle sized, and Kwuna being the smallest. Well I knew that Kahloke was the biggest, but I had originally thought Kwuna was the same as Klitsa but only with ramps on both ends of the ferry so it doesn't need a dock. But one thing I would like to know is, which one are the Albion ferries twins? I don't know why I posted this, I guess I'm just excited over this sudden realization...

Klitsa is their sister, Klatawa and Kulleet are the albion ferries, then klitsa is their sister

Actually. THe Kulleet, and the Klatawas Sister is the Kahloke. the Klitsa was built @ a different TIme

As I understand it, sir, the white-sheeted triplets (Kulleet, Klatawa and Klitsa) were built at the same time. Klitsa was originally christened MV "Denman Queen". She was *named* at a later date.
Oh, anyways. Back to the topic at hand: Kwuna is going to be at Deas? You'd better bet your sweet baby ..... that I'll be down there stuffin' the memory card full of double ramp-y goodness.
Ahem.

Paint is critical to the long term well being of a ship's superstructure. I'm suprised the Kwuna and Quinsam have lasted this long. Generally BCF has a two year repainting programme.

I thought Kwuna, Klitsa and the albion ferries were sisters.

Is anyone sure that she's coming to Deas? Quite often they refit the minor vessels at other shipyards like Nanaimo or North Vancouver. I don't know if Deas has the capacity to lift a ferry out of the water for a major refit. But perhaps she will end up at Deas for other kind of work.

Kwuna is the same size as Klitsa; Klitsa's superstructure is simply larger.
And, if you really want to get technical about it, Kwuna's larger, what with the small matter of 40 foot ramps tacked on at each end.

Yes, But the only reason the klitsa has more Superstructure, is because of the need for Undercover passenger space, its not all even totally enclosed.

I wonder if they can do it in Prince Rupert? Nothing I've seen says they'll bring her down here.

Well Prince Rupert has a couple of small drydocks. I dont think they are gonna tow her all the way down to Vancouver.
