What type of ferry do you think should be ordered by BCFerries?

You know you can use more than 8 now. As for me I think there should be a newer type of class like the PR Queen combined with the Cap holding a big amount of cars or a new slightly smaller Tsawwassen type ship something intresting thats all

I'd like to see either a mini C class, or something like the Queen of Tsawassen, except newer.

heheh, I know that, but I was thinking about the Minors to replace the current fleet of Minor vessels. But I thought the Century Class ships are being built, the Skeena Queen was a 91% Success.

BC Ferries needs more intermediates to replace the Bowen, Mayne and Powell River Queens.

I asked this question on the yahoo board a while back and the concensus was that any new design would be similar to the Osprey 2000. That type of design can be scaled to any required size.

The Osprey 2000 and Skeena Queen are very similar, barring the failed engine design BC Ferries inhereted are they not?
VANCOUVER (CKNW/AM980) - Speaking with CKNW's Bill Good this morning, BC Ferries CEO David Hahn reaffirmed the company's commitment to rebuild the fleet while still trying to make a profit.
He expects a flurry of activity over the next couple of years
"The three ships from the German shipyard will arrive, the first one in the fall of 2007 and the other two six months after that, we'll be ordering a new smaller ship to replace the Queen of Tsawwassen probably in the next two months. That ship would be here somewhere in the 16 to 18 month range, certainly before 2007." Hahn says all the money gets piled back into ships, terminals and improvements for everyone.
At least they're going after the right ship now. I cannot believe they even thought about killing the Nanaimo before the Tsawwassen!

Some Cappie like ships could be built and some more Quinsam/Quinitsa types, Mill bay's design is not obsolete yet is it?

Exactly!

they wont build any new Skeenas', because of the failed engine design. they will probably build some Ospreys' But they are the same as the Klitsa and Kahloke.

They could save on new construction headaches if they scale the Osprey model for specific routes. All the parts would be the same and maybe the engines would be the same too. That would be nice for Deas.

Isn't the fleet doing ok as it is right now, why replce them so soon. I have only just came to canada. Too bad I couldn't see the Saltspring or Vesuvius Quen, maybe if I was born 10 years earlier than I was, I might have been able to see them.

okay....first thing....they would want to go with a design that works, and if you ask me....the Cappy and the cumbie dont work. they burn almost twice the LPH as the HSQ and yet, the cappy only carrys 10 or so more CE....and the HSQ uses less fuel at low rpm, and yet the Cappy burns the same amount of fuel @ FUll speed as she does sitting in the dock idling....they will probbaly go with an open deck Ro - ro....similar to the Osprey 2000....i would have liked to have seen them finish the century class....but they always are too stupid to use a design that could work...they just abandon it...

Quinsam works 98% Reliable, the Cumbie used to be 10%, now it's 95% reliablity approx because of the probs. Mill 'dummy' as Doug calls it, has only had 1 mishap. The Mayne is fine.

Quinsam you never ever think those vessels are 50 years old you can't last them forever!
