I was checking the government archives and I found this supposed picture of Alert Bay. The title of the picture is 'GOVERNMENT FERRY, ALERT BAY' and it's dated 1967. But it doesn't look like Alert Bay and the ferry definately doesn't look like anything that would've done the government route in 1967. Does anyone have any insight into this picture?

Maybe Kesley Bay? Almost looks like Horseshoe Bay but with the photo reversed.

That looks like a Sidney Class ferry to me; either the Queen of Tsawwassen or Queen of Sidney.
I'd have to agree that it looks like a reversed image of Horseshoe Bay. I'd say it looks a little like Village Bay, Mayne Island, but there's no marina there.

The main thing that gets me is the large mountain in the background. There's nothing like that near Horseshoe Bay and I don't think there's one like that near Alert Bay or Village Bay.

If you flip it around, it looks more like HS Bay. And that mountain that was commented on is just the mountains beside the sea to sky.

Looking at it more, it looks like the Sechelt Queen. Given the year, 1967, this is probably true. Check out the decks on the bridge that stick way out and the short funnel and mast that match the archive pic.

I think the Sechelt Queen is in the distance a bit and the Sidney or Tsawwassen is coming in.

I thought that at first, but the giveaway for me are the bridges. On the Sidney, the bridges go no further out than the passenger deck below, but the Sechelt has no sundecks going around the sides on the main passenger deck.
Does anyone know if the Sidney or the Tsawwassen ever went out of Horseshoe Bay?

Yeah they did go out of there when the V/B Class were getting the 84 foot mid-section

Makes sense. The foreground ship could definatley be a Sidney boat. My main reservation was if they were never based out of Horseshoe Bay.
Lots of mystery for an unofficial Fun Friday pic eh?

I must argue. The Sidney and Tsawwassen, as far as I know didn't operate on Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay. I'd say that's either the New West, Nanaimo or Burnaby unstretched. None of them were stretched by '67.

It was the Tsawwassen I remember it saying in the Queens of British Columbia that the Tsawwassen was on that route.

Just to clarify, "The Queens of British Columbia" by Perter Favelle says the following:
M.V. Queen of Tsawwassen:
"Route -Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay Base -Departure Bay"
M.V. Queen of Sidney:
"Route - see "Notes" Base - see "Notes"
Notes
The "Sidney" is normally found on the Tsawwassen - Gulf Island route in the summer months. For this run she is based at Long Harbour, Saltspring Island. During the winter the ship serves as a relief vessel and can be found sailing on any of the other major routes..."
BTW this book was published in 1974
