I miss the stack of hotcakes for breakfast on the departure bay runs. It may have been a victim of the Atkins low-carb mania.
Back in the summer of 1990, the year before the mid-island express route opened, I took the Queen of Vancouver home (from Tsawwassen to Swartz) from a summer vacation trip, and there was a buffet dinner in the upstairs buffet dining room. I remember salmon, and lots of salads. I got there right away, and was done by the time we entered Active Pass. That was a nice buffet.
Wow, this thread is making me hungry...
I had a baked potato & caesar salad on the Nanny, on a summer gulf islands run, in 1998. A nice alternative to the burger & fries.
Back when I was a kid, and we'd line up for breakfast in the cafeteria, every time someone would order 1 fried egg, the chinese order-taker would yell to the cook "fried single"......which sounded like "Fried SeaGull" to my ears. Me and my friends used to crack-up to that one all the time.
I had a great chutney wrap from BreadGarden on the OakBay last summer.
As a kid, before the C-Classes were built, the favourite was a toasted cheese sandwich, served in the dining room. What I remember is the white paper place-mats with lots of decorative holes cut into them.
I plan to visit the breakfast buffet on the Queen of the North, next time I'm on her.

I was on a FastCat that over ran the Queen of Surrey way back. That was coooool. It had though, that morning broke down so the Surrey was simply a relief to the Cat.

Karl - no way would I like to see "White Spot or Big Mac" on the Ferries.
What I think BFC has is a very unique situations. (USP) - it should deveolp it's own meal - food list that reflects the BC Coast - not some "Brand" name - sub-contracted.
There are many really good dishes from the Coast - that can be made for this type of service. This is another income stream for BCF - they can - if it works - then package it and sell on outside of the Ferries & terminals.

White Spot is a well respected BC Brand, however. As is Bread Garden and Villages Pizza. This is the customized branding IHMO. White Spot, although owned by a US Holding Company is more-or-less Canadian/BC operated. Bread Garden is out of Vancouver I think, and Villages Pizza somewhere on the Island. Bread Garden brings unique west coast floavours with their sandwichs and salads, White Spot has an instantly recognizably name with locals, plus a reputation of steal. Then there's Villages Pizza. Never had it.
